I learned the word "biped" from one of those newspaper jumbles where you solve four small jumbles and it gives you the letters to do the main puzzle. I was stuck for 30 minutes with DIBEP, PIBED, etc. until I figured that BIPED must be right, but I mentally pronounced it "bipped" for a while.
