Tyler gone from mine but this still hanging in there

Yeah I was listening to either very outré contemporary stuff (love it but Japanese psychedelic noise is not a singles medium) or like you getting into old soul and funk music

As a general #UncoolTwo50 note I am having real trouble with the late 90s again - just not a time with many singles I love apparently! So I keep thinking “argh there must be dozens of amazing tunes I’ve just forgotten about” rather than facing the fact I just didn’t like a lot of it
Doing a ruthless #UncoolTwo50 longlist purge - adding the unloved bangers to this forlorn pile as I go open.spotify.com/playlist/1g6...

Yeah the keen eyed observer may be able to spot a few “oh not heard that for *ages*” longlistees (there are some I just deleted cos I was even more ashamed of them than an entirely forgotten Electronic single or “Kowalski” by Primal Scream)

They still have a song in!

Purge completed (for now) - 150 ish songs gone

This is very good, and this paragraph gets at why the NYT coverage has been so dishonest and misleading: www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Holidays In The Sun is still in for me - I like it as much as GSTQ and hear it less often

“Still in” being on a list of about 250-300 songs alas

We love our Queen (but not enough to pick her)

Our conversation last week about them manifested this. Will howl with laughter if Yard Act pivot to britrock

I tend to see New Pop as one of those occasional moments you got in UK music when it suddenly goes “hold on, Black American music is amazing right now and we should sound more like it” - like the Beatles & Stones and (indirectly) the 89-90 indie dance wave
Avatar
So I’d credit (say) Chic before any of the UK bands who ran with their ideas. Not to discredit Scritti who worked out soul ballads could be a foundation! Given Robert Wyatt plays on “Sweetest Girl” I’m betting his 1980 cover of “At Last I Am Free” is a major building block here.
Avatar
January - it first came out on the Rough Trade C81 compilation, so it is early! Whether it effectively read as “pop” in that context I have to leave for those around at the time :)
Avatar
First punk into pop entryist is Adam Ant in 1980, I’d say - deliberately creating a sound and look to crash the top 10 and succeeding. Dare is the other big conscious pop move and is Oct 81; first singles April & June that year

Friday afternoon musical argument: "The 80s" begins with Duran Duran's Rio (May 1982) and ends with New Order's Technique (January 1989). Y/N? Alternate boundaries? Let's hear it!

Lot of Predator talk on my TL and honestly I’m open to the Predator predating anyone, anywhere and anywhen as long as it produces some great drum&bass samples youtu.be/Ti78xNUZaqE?...

Yeah I think it’s something you can do for a feed but your options with a list seem very limited (tho lists can be a basis for feeds)
Avatar
Yeah cos it’s just a list! I might make it the basis for a feed and have some kind of content filter too but I don’t really know how they work…
Avatar
Hmm I wonder if there’s a way to just make it posts not replies or does that have to happen in a feed

Superhero artists shaped the entire media landscape and moral worldview of America during the past 100 years, and because of this I feel both that they should be awarded billion dollar pensions, and also placed on trial at the Hague.
Superhero-comics artists are possibly the most underpaid people in the creative arts, relative to their importance as R&D for toys, movies, etc The sheer number of multibillion-dollar visual ideas that have their origins in some penniless eccentric’s imagination and peculiar drawing hand…astounding

I pulled together a list of people I recognise from the polls - apologies to anyone I left off (obviously I can add). Seems fairly high in music content though actually a lot of the most recent stuff is just us whinging. bsky.app/profile/did:...

Also of use to proper music fans wanting to block us all in one fell swoop of course

There do seem to be absolutely no good music feeds (unless someone has one and isn’t telling me)

Every so often I think oh I wish there were more good music chats on here but it’s not like I’m trying to be the change I wish to see and say we lure the 5albums lads over here, what does that actually achieve?
