Love how we've gotten more civil for horrible people, but become way more horrible to people just trying to live their lives.
I don’t look back on my teenage Morrissey fandom with much joy but I do remember being 15 and buying a record with a song calling for the Prime Minister to be guillotined and thinking “yeah fair enough”, it didn’t feel like some unwritten rule of rock star civility had been broken

I hadn't seen this posted here, via a friend re: Gaiman neevita.net/on-neil-and-... I do expect we'll continue seeing more.

Decades ago, I cold emailed Sonny Liew to tell him I was a fan of his work. Now, we're nominated in the same category. Wild. Just... wild.

Instead of hating on art online with comments like “eew this sucks” try some self reflecting I sentences. For example: I’m so afraid of failing that I envy and hate on everyone who even dares to try

Hey it's me, Sonic the Hedgehog! Did you know you don't have to write every thought you have on the computer? That's right - believe it or not there are many cases where the thrill of likes and reposts do not outweigh the potential real world consequences, regardless of how unlikely they are!

"Meritocracy" has always been a big buzzword in Singapore too—made all the worse because any difficult conversations about the real and perceived intersections of race and class could be seen as a chargeable offence.
The reason we hear so much meritocracy propaganda is that it's the only socially acceptable origin story for the people it happend to work out for, could stay in the game longer thanks to generational wealth, or are just pretending to have "made it." You can't grind your way to a just society.

I finally got my hands on copy of the JLA/AVENGERS book produced with the Hero Intiative. I wanted to save my first reading of this crossover till I finished Kurt Busiek and George Pérez's run on AVENGERS and all the DC/Marvel crossovers that came before it, but I couldn't help myself.

It is pretty weird to see the same people who were calling Trump Hitler 2 a few hours ago suddenly have more empathy for his wellbeing then they've ever shown a single Palestinian

I understand the impulse behind "You shouldn't work at an evil organization," but a) change from the inside is always possible, b) most people don't have the luxury of choosing which jobs to work, c) everybody pays taxes to governments which do bad things, so everyone's hands are dirty.

The majority of people flatly do not understand — and would be honestly shocked by! — how little money most publicly known writers make

lol not the 'being anti-AI is ableist' line. over here in reality, incredible art is made daily by disabled people, and claiming 'being anti-AI is ableist' is actually some of the most ableist shit i've ever heard because you're claiming what they do is not as good as your soulless piece of software
More from the other side, so people know where she really stands

I’m tired reading posts about older creators not having the funds to live despite making some of the most well known characters in our collective consciousness

Shoot call time has been 7am every day and every day I try to wake up in time to take the bus, but end up getting a ride share instead. It is our last day today, so I can finally stop lying to myself.

God, I miss SDCC. I hope that, in some form or another, I'll be back there next year.

Larry Hama basically created GI Joe, providing not only the names and character bios for Hasbro, but nearly all of the truly great stories for the characters. In a just world that would have paid his way for life 😔
With all the comic news yesterday I feel like this got ignored. Larry Hama has been struggling with medical problems and, from what I’ve gathered, still really depends on gigs to survive financially. His ability to draw is being taken away. He’s a living legend and badass. Deserves better.
Avatar
There are plenty of stories about Larry to point out his impact on the industry but this one from Christopher Priest really shows the environment he faced head on and how cool he was while doing it. One of those guys who deserves more than the comic industry has given them and just hope he can relax

Examining your own behaviour and understanding what role you may be playing for others is uncomfortable and unrewarding. It doesn't mean you get to be part of a group of people affirming that you are all good people; it isolates you. But it is an antidote to "uwu smol bean"-ing yourself into abusing

Also people who don't acknowledge when they have power over others. It's much easier to think "the bad person rubs their hands and calculates carefully how to succeed in their crimes" rather than "under the right circumstances I too could be the villain in a story like this if I don't self-examine".
Avatar
I think there are a lot of people who want "abuser" to be a specific category of calculating sociopath, because it absolves them of ever having to ask if their own uncalculated, instinctive behaviours are dangerous in the context of a power imbalance.

Been posting sporadically because I've been on shoots over these last two weeks. Tomorrow's our last day and I'm genuinely looking forward to a relatively quieter time moving forward.

You would seriously make my day if you picked up a copy of our book, WORK-LIFE BALANCE, from your local comic shop. It's a weird little prose/comics hybrid with Southeast Asian creatures and spirits. www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/APR2...
If you've been thinking of hitting the LCS, buying a comic from a small presser, throwing a buck at a creator's Patreon, take a breath and go do it. Not my stuff, I'll still be here a while, I have a following, and my parents got me a car to replace the beater. Make someone's day who could use it.
