Old Democratic blogger at yastreblyansky.blogspot.com and yastreblyansky.substack.com. He/him. Is this where the party is?

Sure, and he has no imaginable expectation of getting there. Not sure what I'm wondering, maybe just whether Vance's rage and resentment extends to his patrons?

Mikey Johnson can't help grinning with the irony when he says "We are the law and order party"--the first party to nominate a convicted felon to the presidency, the same day as Democrats respond to Menendez (D-NJ) conviction with calls for him to resign or be expelled

This is what "stochastic terrorism" should actually mean--without an assignable purpose, a random function of probabilities (create an atmosphere of random violence like school shootings, give x many wacko kids access to assault rifles, stage a rally in this unlikely place...)
The bit where he's clearly a wacko kid seems pretty crucial. It'd be one thing if it were a terrorist or an ANTIFA or whatever, but some rural PA kid gone sideways? There's no narrative there

All this frantic hunting for motives may be missing the point. Sometimes the opportunity is what matters and there isn't much of a motive at all--guns really do kill people

That's not just luck. Looks like he's driven all the non-psychopaths off his staff and the people working for him are just like him now.

Democratic senator Bob Menendez is a convicted felon! What do Democrats do? 1. Ask him to resign (again--already did when he was indicted) 2. Find a great candidate to replace him. Republican ex-president Trump is a convicted felon! What to Republicans do?...

Can't say for sure why Biden would oppose presidential immunity but I'm guessing he may not have falsified any business records, stolen classified records from the government, or used illegal means to stop Congress from certifying an election.

In honor of this seriously bullshit heat, I translated a favorite passage from Chapter 27 of the late-Ming novel Jin Ping Mei, which is mostly remembered for other things: "There are in this world three sorts of people who fear the heat, and three who do not." www.burninghou.se/p/the-heat

Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

He made a career out of trashing the people he grew up around (home town and his grandparents town). I just don’t get how anyone thinks this will work out well for him on the national stage.
Eating in an Ohio restaurant and the local TV station did a piece with people in Vance’s hometown. First of all, loved the shot of the upscale coffee shot, the chic farmer’s market etc and the comments from the Chamber of Commerce CEO. Second, they seemed pretty damn unenthused

I have to assume reporters are rushing to the area to get the layup article about how Vance’s hometown hates him

So a cop from out of town killed a homeless black man. That isn't murder?
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel confirms that a Columbus, Ohio, police officer detailed to the RNC shot and killed a homeless Black man (earlier reported to be in his early 20s) more than half a mile from the RNC arena. The man was known by the nickname Jehovah and took care of a pit bull named Isis.

Just a reminder: Trump inherited the lowest homicide rate of any president in 50 years. He was the first president in 30 years to leave office with a higher homicide rate than when he entered. And the rate has dropped every year since he left. www.foxnews.com/video/635815...

JD Vance lives in a beautiful brick mansion that was originally built in 1867, just above the Ohio River. For many years it had colorful, well-cared-for, expansive gardens in the front of the house. Vance bought it for $1.4 million and promptly replaced them with a hillside of bare grass.
Avatar
Vance surely has real money of his own from the book royalties and movie rights though.

And their exes aren't
There’s some evidence that Trump’s core support is people with a grievance against the modern world, which took away the time when they were the top dogs. Anyway, here’s another group: divorced men.

1/ If you need more incentive to support & vote for Biden/Harris, you should know that if Trump becomes the 47th President, it is highly likely that he does not live out his entire term and Sen. JD Vance becomes the 48th President. Here is a link to a synopsis of Vance's policy stands:

From the JD Vance (Senate) campaign website. JD Vance would ban every single woman (or girl) from receiving an abortion, no matter the circumstances by which she was impregnated or the danger to her health. Maybe (just maybe) if she risks imminent death.

if you’re trying to engage with politically disconnected people about project 2025, identify a specific part that you think will resonate with them. i just told my friend who’s a public school teacher about the plan to abolish the department of education and that got her hooked.
