Maybe Arizona courts shouldn't have overturned that voter-approved measure to levy a income surtax on high earners to pay for education... 🤔

Ironically, the "populist" Republican ticket is now two Ivy Leaguers, while the Democratic ticket is a state university grad and an HBCU grad.

Declaring people to be vermin, enemies of the state, or un-human is the sort of language people adopt before they pursue a genocide.

the stated reason that Biden's weird stumbles and oldness is getting like 90x the attention of Trump's dictatorial plans and extensive legal troubles is that it's about whether Biden can defeat Trump and head off said problems, which is why i described electability as an ouroboros last week

I'm interested in the ways that families use private resources to supplement or substitute for public schooling. So I'm thrilled that our (cleverly titled?) paper "Kumon In: The Recent, Rapid Rise of Private Tutoring Centers" has been conditionally accepted by Education Finance and Policy. .

The official 2024 GOP platform makes a reference to "Christian-hating Communists" who the Republicans will keep from entering the country. Back in the early days of the America First movement, "Christian-hating Communists" would have just been a longer way of saying "Jews."

Either the Democrats will run Biden, or he'll say he can't continue the campaign and Democrats will run Harris. Either is newsworthy, but neither is nearly as radical as running a pro-insurrection convicted felon with legal immunity he's eager to use.

I hate this court so much and even I am astonished by this case. It writes new provisions into Art 2 of the constitution that were unnecessary to decide the case at hand and that cannot be repealed by legislative action or even undone without a new case of presidential law breaking before the court

Honestly still in shock that the most crooked American President in history said "I need immunity" and the GOP Supreme Court said "well, it's nowhere in the constitution, but sure, why not? Whats the worst that could happen?"

Meanwhile, in state government... Gov. Pillen is proposing to state-fund #publiced in Nebraska, with zero local property tax component. I am VERY interested to see whether this gets traction, and how he proposes to fund it—def more and less progressive options. nebraskaexaminer.com/briefs/gov-p...

The (non-Supreme) courts are the only American institution that has proved equal to the challenge of puncturing Trump's lies and holding him in any way accountable for his crimes against our democracy, and SCOTUS just cut them off at the knees.

/7 Justice Roberts smug and superior dismissal of the dissents’ concerns seems to come to us via time warp from some time that never knew Trump. The danger of lawlessness he poses are manifest — he and his followers brag of them. Only a liar or fool would dismiss them.

Absolutely wild that the court accuses the dissent of "fearmongering" with "extreme hypotheticals" when the actual basis for the indictment is a coup attempt that led to an attack on the capitol

Me, a rube: Whether Trump gets away with trying to overthrow an election could decide the fate of our democracy. Roberts, a genius: Ah, but we must look at the bigger picture.

I know very little about Corner Post, but is it reasonable to expect that it will tie up fed agencies in court (just like Jarksey and Loper Bright)? Should I worry that unless Congress appropriates a lot more $ for executive-branch legal depts (hah), agencies will be bled dry by expensive lawsuits?
