I'm not. Everything they're doing is backing Trump, and the only reason he's showing any objection to it now is because people are reacting negatively.
He fucking loves what Project 2025 is doing and he'll absolutely use it. He just doesn't want bad press.
He's not going to be 100% definitive about this the same way he equivocated and 'both sides'd Charlottesville. He doesn't want to alienate the Christian nationalist fascist base they've built for him.
The only saving grace is that he's ridiculously clumsy because he doesn't understand anything beyond, 'This makes me look bad.'
Imagine what happens when he's gone, and a more innovative and competent villain takes over the MAGA cult?
The real nightmare comes in the future.
"I'm against you trying to kill Congress on 1/6 but also think you're heroes and patriots for trying to kill Congress and my Veep. How are you people stupid enough to fall for this?"
He hardly even knows the plan. Maybe it brought him coffee once or twice?
Also, definitely not ALL CAPS, which is his preferred communication style when denying or lying about something. So…always.
no weird capitals, no weird exclamation points, no weird tangents. you think he knows the word "abysmal"? nah. this is a pr statement by someone. does trump know what project 2025 is? prob not. but behind the scenes do, and THEY are worried, most likely.
I think he wants to distance himself from some of what Project 2025 wants until Election Day, but he's not necessarily rejecting the agenda. (He might be - he hates it when people think someone else is making decisions for him - but we shouldn't assume that he's rejecting the agenda outright.)
And he just says whatever he thinks will get him a win on any given day. If people don't like Project 2025 today, he hates it. Tomorrow he'll meet with Mr. Heritage and say that anyone tweeting bad things about it has been very unfair.
The dude is on record saying he’ll be a dictator on Day 1. He is also on record saying he’ll conduct mass deportations. Public executions. The Confederate members of SCOTUS told him he can. Who are you gonna believe? A twice impeached convicted criminal or…?
Trump claiming he’s never heard of the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation… it’s like a cat saying she doesn’t ever notice the sound of the cat food bag.
Trump is too far gone to have any sense of object permanence. He has forgotten his wife’s name, so he certainly could have forgotten Project 2025. The people who will be ruling in his stead are 100% on board, though, and if Trump distancing himself gets him in office, then they get what they want
