As someone who has largely just kind of hung out and vibed on here for the last year it is absolutely insane how many people went "oh I have Clout on The Tiny Twitter Knock-Off, time to abuse people and act like a feudal lord"
Like
Jesus christ, have one (1) normal human relationship
Also doubly funny when their clout is like
6k horny/rabid queer people that they get from constantly engagement farming and pushing and whatever
Meanwhile Gaiman has a quarter of a million people and mostly just goes "here's a nice thing I saw :)"
Gaiman's social media presence has consistently the chillest, most serene feeds I have ever seen.
Shame he didn't convince his wife to come over here, she's fun to have around
i honestly just wanted to meet some cool people and talk about my stories when they get published, but it’s been a terrible year for publishing (at least for me) and the folks that really want this place to be a klingon starship of abuses and coups are starting to wear me out.
I just came here to talk about nerdy stuff (fiction, science, music, bikes, etc) with smart people. (My gender reexamination was a bonus.) Fortunately, my account is very small, and I mostly use my Following tab, so I only catch the very edges of any discourse.
I do feel out of the loop sometimes.
More or less the same here. I use it the same I used Twitter: Mostly just aimlessly rambling about games, manga, music and other nerd stuff. I love having a place to just think out loud that isn't flooded with NAZIs.
There's been a whole gaggle of "Big Posters" who have been outed as shitheads and abusers and it's all just a parade of absolute nightmares and is so weird and so exhausting
Saaaaame. I know it's been happening because I've seen the fallout from a few others I follow being abused by "them" - but I genuinely have no idea who "them" is because I'm usually metaphorically off in the outfield picking dandelions <3
Sad it's happening though. This was such a cool place once
This is true! Like, I cultivated a pretty LGBTQ+ friendly corner of Twitter by aggressively blocking a-holes in the Before Times, and we have tools like publicly subbable block lists here
I just hope enough people agree and put the trolls in their place. A little trolling is fine. Abuse is not
same. i’m just posting, and honestly it’s NICE not to have the big following i did on twitter (which i just had from writing) because i can just post regular shit about my life and not feel instantly Scrutinized idk
And like some kind of online Highlander, some folks most adamantly looking to take out the clout-minded are themselves falling into the same trap. A lot of the ones they’re working to drive off the site followed the same exact playbook and then started feeling very powerful when it worked for them.
