This is an especially wild choice for Alaska, which has no law school and so must famously import lawyers from other states. A move that lawyers with significant student debt are probably a lot less willing to make!
NEWS: Alaska, SC, and Texas go to SCOTUS to stop the Biden admin's SAVE Plan that limits student loan payments and sets a forgiveness schedule. They are asking the court to vacate the stay issued by the Tenth Circuit of a district court nationwide injunction. www.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

Closely tied to the implicit assumption that anyone who bikes clearly could not afford your store, which is both an incredibly gross way to think about a literal life and death issue and manifestly untrue as the explosion of $1k commuter bikes shows.
I've become convinced that one of the biggest obstacles to better road design in commercial areas is well-off business owners who drive their BMW to work every day and find it impossible to imagine a customer who uses any other mode of conveyance to arrive at the shop.

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

truly blow american lawyers’ brains by explaining that other countries don’t have judicial review in the way that we do!!
This is a provocative but compelling argument for reining in SCUTS' lawlessness by eliminating or at least heavily curbing judicial review (which they just made up anyways) prospect.org/justice/the-...
The Case Against Judicial Reviewprospect.org If Democrats don’t bring the Supreme Court to heel, Americans will live under judicial despotism for the foreseeable future.

To its enormous credit, the main DC public library also has all these things! (Plus a punk archive at another branch!)
The Helsinki library is like the apotheosis of Library As Useful Public Space. I am in awe.

Sorry to all my lawyer friends who spent a bunch of time learning how law works in the US. I had friends who were Flash developers and things turned out alright for them after they pivoted to C# or whatever. Hopefully there's an equivalent for our national legal system

Here's the big picture: a previous Republican Supreme Court put in place a rule to protect a Republican president's deregulatory agenda. Today, another Republican Supreme Court has gotten rid of that rule, giving themselves more power, because their party struggles to win presidential elections.
Roberts has the opinion overruling the 1984 case setting forth a standard in which courts give federal agencies deference to their reasonable interpretations of ambiguous laws. The decision gives more power to the courts to strike down agency actions. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23p...

To their credit, BA recipes do not have this issue. Nor does Pailin's Kitchen. Smitten Kitchen however...
I accidentally(ish) put 6x the amount of sugar in a fried noodle dish and it tastes wayyyy more like the restaurant stuff. Why do recipe sites lie to us?

The BBC has gone full "reporting from the destabilized national capital" with their Trump reporting and I am delighted: "The prosecutor insisted that the justice system IS still working."

Ahhh the tale of how I ended up keeping the shitty flip next door off the market for over two years.
Yeah. I was like, okay, "snitches get stitches" does not apply to whistleblowing on a house flipper who is literally going to kill the buyer of this house with their blithe indifference to things like "load-bearing walls" and "'pot light' does not mean 'cut a hole in the ceiling for a bare bulb'"

I would also add, feminism! My mom straight up does not cook because she didn't want to get stuck doing it. (she also could not make coffee until about five years ago.) I love to cook because it's for fun, not a mandate, and I learned from my dad, who also does it for fun.
There seems to have been a generational dip in cooking skills that is getting better due to, sigh, YouTube and TikTok and friends.
