Glad to be getting updated COVID vaccines, but this does not make sense. If they wanted to mitigate the summer wave, they needed to release updated vaccines in spring, not at the end of the summer when COVID spread is already huge.

New piece from me, about how the Democrats' pandemic denialism reached brave new heights at the superspreader DNC this week, celebrating their "victory" over COVID as a million Americans were infected each day in an August surge. t.co/xV07kYiHRM

Oh I LOVE sharing this one with new people! Did y’all know that, as a sweeping generalization, women don’t tend to get the midlife crisis? We actually get a midlife reprieve.

NYT Fact Check: Starfleet, an organization that purports to champion the values of diversity and inclusion, constantly wars with the Borg, the most inclusive organization in the galaxy. Is this disqualifying hypocrisy? Maureen Dowd says yes.

Are the 1000 people dead every week and 1.3 million infected daily—of which many will go on to develop Long Covid that brings disability, chronic illness and shortened life—really the back to normal you want? It’s not to late to mask and demand clean air from your workplace and govt ✊😷

Queer Temporality also plays a pretty big factor in when, if, and how we experience this as well. "Midlife" makes less and less sense as an idea the less your life fits the standard progression of work and relationship/family life.

We’re discussing the so-called “midlife crisis” and what factors seem to complicate/mitigate it. I think this is really insightful. The more people lock in to an identity placed on them early in life, the harder “midlife” seems to be for them to navigate with resilience:
I wonder how much more pressure at the front end of the process influences people later on. If you're in high school but you can buy your friends beer or smokes without getting carded, you're committed to that look for a *while*. Super easy to get invested in an identity that you commit to for years

Y’all, it’s not so much a “men are doomed!” scenario. Don’t panic It’s more of a “society has been telling you as a woman that you have to meet all these superficial arbitrary standards, and as you age you will grow less and less desirable and happy. But maybe don’t worry so much about that” thing.

This is an important message to remember when there’s so much of a tendency for other people online to attempt to define you in ways that are completely disconnected from your behavior. People make up a person to be mad at when nobody to get mad at exists right now. That person isn’t you.

I'd really like every American who takes the existence--and inherent justice--of jails and prisons for granted to take a few minutes to examine the assumptions that inform those ideas and ask questions about whether and how the reality reflects them and what alternatives could look like.

I’m sure I seem different because I’m less likely to acquiesce & accommodate, more vocal about what I want (and don’t want), less likely to make myself small or shape myself around the hard edges of other people. If that seems like a “crisis” I guess it’s on you to come to terms with that.
