The govt believes they have made the economic case for this, but in no way have they made, or even attempted to make, the moral or social one, and those are just as important.

Confusion abounds. No one involved seems clear on which roles are hiring. Despite having around 15FTE available, we’re told we can fill less than 1/6 of that at present and no one can advise whether that includes 2025 new grads (advertising at present) or not. It seems like deliberate disarray.

This absolutely applies to clinical roles. Mt friend is a nurse at a public hospital in the North Island and they desperately need nurses but are not allowed to hire due to the hiring freeze. 🇳🇿

Today I have been to a beach cleanup, swum 3.5km and watched Inside Out 2 with my 10yo and her delightful friend, and now I’m going to bury myself in dive podcasts and editing dive photos. It’s a day to feel good about my life choices and settle for knowing the bare minimum about today’s events.
