The Asp caterpillar (Megalopyge opercularis) also called the 'puss caterpillar' is the larva of the flannel moth. They look fuzzie-wuzzie, but the larva contains a secret: hidden in the soft hairs are dagger-sharp hollow spines containing a venom that causes intense pain. (📷: Judy Gallagher)
