Lord, there's a pit in my stomach seeing the pictures coming out of St. Vincent (where I was born and where much of my family grew up or still lives)

I’m so sorry. I’ve been watching it because it’s also heading for TX. But it’s devastating to have a direct hit from a Cat 4. I hope everyone is at least safe.
I hope St. Vincent quickly gets the help it needs. I represented Grenada in a few cases. It had been about five years since they'd been hit by Hurricane Ivan, and the economy and infrastructure were still showing the signs. Small states can't have a FEMA standing by—we have a responsibility.
I have nothing smart or useful to say about how the powerful have put so many in harm's way and refused to do anything to change that. Just, I hope your family and friends are able to keep safe.
I feel you. My SIL is in SVG and we haven’t heard from her since last week. Just spent the past few days in frantic communication with my siblings & family in Jamaica. They’re OK, but now the aftermath of disrupted electricity, water, food & supplies begins.
Having lived on the US Gulf Coast, the thing I always remember about hurricanes is that we see them on TV and the images are shocking from one edge of the screen to the other. But the reality is thousands of square kilometers of destruction which don't fit on the TV. It's worse than people think.
