I Will Fucking Piledrive You If You Mention AI Again — Ludicityludic.mataroa.blog

The author may be a data scientist, but his writing is fire

All of his essays/posts are honestly great.

I'll have to read through the rest

If you are even lazier, as the sun becomes a red giant, the earth’s trajectory is predicted to eventually carry all your enemies into the sun. But this strikes me as probably an advanced technique.

Reads like Maddox or old Cracked.

security engineer here, this is a good line.

Oh, the ZTA group I had to participate in for the data pillar was… something. Good in theory, may work for small gov contractors, is ludicrously far from any kind of implementable framework for big contractors. They have NO IDEA in any formal sense what their data is.

"Zero trust" means you should not trust it under any circumstances.

“I just want to eat my pancakes in peace, you sick fucks.” - god if that isn’t my mood every morning for the last decade of tech bullshit

This is *great* In fact it's too good, since I'll have to gently paraphrase it for colleagues dazzled by AI hype in order not to sound like a ranting Luddite (to them)

I absolutely love the use of "practitioner" in that.

He definitely has a way with words 🙂

This: "There are those that have drunk the kool-aid. There are those that have not. And then there are those are that are trying to mix up as much kool-aid as possible. I shall let you decide who sits in which basket."

I firmly believe most of the current investment in AI will not generate any ROI. However, most corporations are quite good at hiding their failures.
It's good for automating solution finding for tasks that have a very large data set, and measurable results that you can report as "better" or "worse" to the system. It's not good at discrete facts or judgement calls.
Avatar
The thing you say AI is not good at is precisely what every business needs it to do to make a profit. Interesting times ahead.

For anyone who's wondering, it's worth reading the entire thing. Beautiful gems: "An executive at an institution that provides students with important credentials, used to verify suitability for potentially lifesaving work and immigration law, asked me if I could detect students cheating.
Avatar
"I was going to say "No, probably not"... but I had a suspicion, so I instead said "I might be able to, but I'd estimate that upwards of 50% of the students are currently cheating which would have some serious impacts on the bottom line as we'd have to suspend them.
Avatar
Should I still investigate?" We haven't spoken about it since."

A truly righteous rant and a thing of beauty.
Great article! This line hit me: "The only thing you should be doing is improving your operations and culture, and that will give you the ability to use AI if it ever becomes relevant." Like I say, recursively self-improving superintelligence exists - our technological civilization is an example.
So yeah, at this point given where management & AI sciences are respectively at it's plausible you'd get better marginal value from improving how your collection of generally-intelligent employees work together towards a common goal than from inventing a new general intelligence to add to the mix.

This was great but I was especially tickled by "if you continue to try { thisBullshit(); } you are going to catch (theseHands)"

This piece has brightened my entire week. Thank you for posting this.

It brightened mine as well, so I figured I should spread the joy 😁
Pretty sure most positive results from AI are like positive results from the Oracle at Delphi. Random chance, and a lot of post-hoc interpretation.

(it would be even better without all the ableist language though)

I don't work in any of these spaces but got a whole lot of laughter out of this. So good.

Thank you so damned much for posting this!!! This is my favorite tech article so far this year. It's a brilliant combination of hyperbolic rage and credible intelligent argumentation and I wish everyone were forced to read it before they could say “we need to have AI…”

What a shock: it’s full of spite and indignant barking by people who have swallowed and/or are selling the coolaid.

that's a really interesting writeup. (Also, bonus points from me for the Iron Man reference! 😁)
