It also makes me feel insane that the rat fuck around Biden’s age and mental capacity is being uncritically spread around by Democrats when Trump is *incredibly obviously* grotesquely mentally incapacitated, in a way that is genuinely terrifying.

It makes me feel very much unmoored from reality to see all this *buying into* the Biden Too Old ratfuck narrative, days after the Supreme Court ruled that Trump gets to be dictator for life, just weeks after Trump became a convicted felon (oh, and there’s the Epstein stuff that just came out).

I don't know if the Onion is as ~hilarious~ as I found it 20 years ago but I think they are accurately capturing the moment we live in.

saying this is NOT the same thing as saying that the situation is no big deal and everything will be fine - but the truth is, when things look really bad, ceding defeat before you've actually been *defeated* is a completely useless strategy.

I really have lost my former tolerance for "we're doomed/fucked/it's all over/they've won" takes at this point, in that they're the most dangerous attitudes one could possibly have when confronted with a truly existential political threat (which we still DO have levers to address).

We have four months and everyone can sign up to phone tree or canvas in battleground states. All the boring stuff that actually matters in a democracy.

My feelings about the current state of things is simultaneously that far too many people are unprepared for how bad things will be in our lifetimes, yet *also* far too many people have given up hope in what is and will remain a fight we can win.

Just at the most basic level it is really unhealthy to have to thought about Donald Trump as much as everyone in America has over the last nine or so years. I don't know if it qualifies as a genre but I've found myself seeking out and enjoying movies from the '70s where New York City seems just awful. Not even Taxi Driver-type stuff, movies like The French Connection and various Larry Cohen films where all the restaurants are brown and vile-looking.
