to be layered in my responce: Indictments are fact specific and leadership has different facts than line officers. More indictments may be coming. Juries are more likely to convict leadership and more likely to empathize with officers doing what they are told. DAs like to choose cases they can win

A hundred cop defendants means the PD harassing the DA in a thousand tiny ways that makes securing convictions impossible. A targeted indictment feeds the public outcry, but keeps line cops working.

I hope these charges are successful, but I'm worried they're on legally shaky ground. In a country with Qualified Immunity, where people frequently die in police custody without anyone facing consequences, I'm jaded towards the idea that you can enforce a duty of care on the officers here.

Those two cases would be relevant if they didn't intervene or chose to not protect. But they intervened and their actions, like stopping parents from intervening and even putting at least one under arrest for trying, were justified by the fact they were protecting.

So, as the article you could have read before commenting, don't worry, it happens to everybody, even me, clearly states the accusations are based on their gross incompetence while choosing to commit to those actions that's being put on trial
