Oh my god’ it was HUGE! And its a lasting meme. White people have barf bowls we also use for large salads and halloween candy and popcorn. Washed in between but white people washing so…
Avatar
THE HALLOWEEN CANDY BOWLS WERE BARF BOWLS??
Avatar
This is the issue Brooke. It's not having a barf bowl it's having a multi purpose barf bowl

I feel like such a babe in the woods right now. Do you mean, I would eat at other peoples houses, and there was a nonzero chance someone puked in something I was eating out of...? This whole time??
Avatar
Apparently! Not my house though! Food stuff doesn't mix with non food uses. I have measuring spoons just for cleaning supplies!
Avatar
Same!! I don't think this is unreasonable!

Disgust triggers are one of the most basic and personal feelings we have. I've known folks who really care about things like that (a metal mixing bowl being tainted by association with a past use) but who don't do basic sanitation in their kitchen, and there's no arguing them into or out of either.
Avatar
I've kind of given away where I stand - for me, plates are plates. I can't understand minding that one was used once to feed the cat, as long as it's been washed. I'm servesafe certified, I just completely lack that trigger. I'm way more concerned with people touching their phones while cooking.
Avatar
In my house the barf bowl is the toilet bowl. What the fuck.
Avatar
Sometimes when you're really sick you can't make it. I'm college I puked in our sink because I couldn't make it to the toilet (sink was in my room, toilet was not). It was some stomach bug and it was bad enough I was puking bile

What about when you need to bazooka?

I'm just learning a new and horrible thing about people!

Avatar
Did you expect white ppl to be reasonable?
Avatar
IF it graduates from the dishwasher, I use it for anything.
Avatar
I have a feeling this is on par with that “white people don’t wash their legs” thing. What white people - not this white people
Avatar
Must be the same white people who don’t use wash cloths when they bathe/shower.
Avatar
That discourse is burned in my soul. I learned so much about people that week
Avatar
Yeah it's people like me, sorry everybody. I'm not actually sure about the barf bowl thing growing up but I wouldn't be surprised or bothered to find out we did that.
Avatar
Yes exactly! Some white ppl do it, but defs not all.
Avatar
I’ve only seen that not washing their legs things aimed at men. I didn’t know it was also being passed as a white person stereotype.
Avatar
Men is not washing their asses. Not washing legs is for ppl of all genders 💕
Avatar
As is right and just. We have a sponge at the sink just for counters etc and one for things we eat with.
Avatar
Same! The sink and dishes scrubbies are LABELED too. No excuses.
Avatar
That’s smart! I have a separate bin to wash my CPAP supplies in bc … well I honestly don’t think I thought of using a bowl? And a separate one for foot soaks. The CPAP one is labeled.
Avatar
For sure, cleaning liquids which are highly toxic should not cross with food. But barf... is food It's organic. It's fine and cleans off of bowls and plates just fine.
Avatar
Avatar
Aaaaaaaggghhh I profoundly regret opening this pandora's box
Avatar
Only if your house is a certified organic facility and you have the paperwork to prove you've been eating exclusively organic for the last 3 years.
Avatar
Norovirus (a common cause of barfing, found in barf) is incredibly difficult to kill and not something I would ever want to intentionally put in contact with something I eat out of.
Avatar
Yeah surely the sensible thing is to use a bucket or basin which gets used for actual household cleaning stuff, on the occasions that people cannot manage to run to the bathroom.
Avatar
No thanks. The person who threw up may have done it because they were ill. Vomit includes stomach acid. I wonder if there are national differences about this. In the U.S., stuff that comes out of the body is considered unclean.
Avatar
It's not even a weak acid! hydrochloric acid is a pretty strong acid
Avatar
I'm with Kendra. There are toothbrushes for cleaning only. Any barfing goes into a bucket which might be used for cleaning. No bowl ever is used for barf. I can't even.
Avatar
We always used the big stainless stock pot if someone needed to hunker down because you can *really clean* metal. Never in plastic.
Avatar
The high sides are great for reducing splash back too.
Avatar
Oh, yeah, it was metal for sure (in the house I grew up in, I do not do this, please don't yell at me commentariat)
Avatar
Yeah that's a thing we did when I was growing up, I didn't carry on the practice
Avatar
Same. Gotta break the chain of generational trauma!

This just popped up in my timeline and what the hell is happening?

I’m so glad when I get a post that’s not missing all the context. BlueSky is weird.

I don't get it...as someone who was once familiar with drinking to excess, I knew the small trash can was mandatory. Bowls would never be used as they were too prone to allow splash damage, and also people cooked with/ate out of them.
