The only people who get confused by why he takes a hard line on this really aren’t writers (or actually creative).

I was really surprised Ari asked the AI question the way he did. “I bet you wished you could have used AI when you were stuck.” Now I’m wondering how much Ari uses it.🧐

It’s pretty telling. Kinda makes me think Ari maybe cheats at crossword puzzles too.

Ari's "huh" in the transcript, as if it never dawned on him that a creative person would ever be against AI 😐

These questions were so dumb I assumed it was Ben Shapiro. (Then wondered why tf Simon would agree to be interviewed by that idiot.)

I also thought that. The exert does fits with Ben being a failed screenwriter.

I’ll have some faith in Ari. He’s playing the straight man here, to pull out Simon’s simplest, most emotional arguments to be digested by people stuck in traffic. In 7 minutes, Simon lays out the reasoning behind the entire WGA strike because Ari is asking the right questions.

I was under the same impression, and the fact that I was wrong makes me think even more poorly of both Ari Shapiro and of NPR for employing him.

I love him so much. And I love that, for most of the time he has existed over on Twitter, he has spent it crafting eloquent "your mom" jokes in response to assholes. 😀

Shapiro is describing giving up the fun part! Having a challenge and then figuring it out is the joy of the work! Why would I give up the fun to a computer that will just give me ten derivative ideas or gibberish.

This is honestly a shocking line of questioning from Ari Shapiro.

I listened to it, and I'd say it's *possible* that he was being deliberately obtuse because he knew perfectly well what the response would be and wanted to give Simon room to rampage, but it's not at all clear. So yeah, I agree, if he was sincerely asking those questions, he's a jackass.

I think people forget that AI can't have an original thought. It is literally incapable of it because it is built on other people's thoughts. It can only do what other people already have done. But business people don't know what "original" means anyway so....
