On this July 4, please pause to remember that one of the colonists’ complaints in the Declaration was that the Crown was paying its judges.

The sad truth is that there will likely never be justice wielded against the men and state that kidnapped Dr. Abu Salmiya and tortured him for seven months. Abu Salmiya was a hostage, but the New York Times will never use that word, nor will any US government official. One has to wonder why that is.

Homeless people can be arrested for sleeping, Presidents cannot be arrested for rampant graft and corruption done while in office. There is no clearer a summary of "conservative 'law and order'" than this.

Just so disgusted by the (all but 2) Republicans and 62 Democrats (see below) who voted to ban US officials from acknowledging the death toll in Gaza. clerk.house.gov/Votes/2024313

They keep making the same mistake, which is the assumption that Palestinians' conflicts are inherently with Israel -- and therefore a religious or ethnic conflict -- rather than the with the brute reality of occupation and dispossession
TBH if Washington thinks a US-Arab occupation of Gaza would be any more tolerable to Palestinians than Israeli occupation they're very mistaken.

What fresh hell
One of the bleakest uses for gen AI I've seen yet: a bank is rolling out a system to detect when a call center worker is on the brink of "losing it"—and play them AI-made family photo montages to calm them down. Behind the latest fresh hell AI promises: www.bloodinthemachine.com/p/ai-cant-fi...
AI can't fix everything automation already brokewww.bloodinthemachine.com Generative AI is the latest in a long line of technologies that promise innovation and fixes but grind away at public life

Year like 10 or 11 of this stupid game and they still can’t show the players the slightest bit of respect by leasing more server space on day 1s. So glad no more Bungie for me after this year.

It says something about techbros that they created a machine that does nothing but endlessly bullshit and gaslight and spew biases and instantly thought "wow this thing is so intelligent, just like me."

My father-in-law passed about a decade ago. I just found a copy of a book I’d ghost-written and given him for Xmas around 2009…I’d forgotten about what I’d written inside. Lol. Miss you dad!

To repeat: generative "A.I." is not inevitable. It's a derivative, boring bullshit generator. It wallows in mediocrity and fails by design and definition. Just say no.
