It's a wonderful weird angry book. I want more weird angry books that make me love the characters.
Last day of Hugo voting and I don’t know if I’ve made this clear, but I feel grateful and lucky and extremely jazzed to have my weird angry book on the ballot with so many absolutely stunning works.

I don't care who the Dems run as long as they start acting like they actually want to win. Biden could win it if they actually tried. If they don't try with Kamala, she wouldn't win either.

People say scientists are serious but marine biologists will spend hours quietly sitting around tables drawing on styrofoam cups and then tying said cups to deep sea submarines Because ocean pressure will squeeze the air from the cups And we are but human & we want tiny cup

Same as it ever was. As a survivor / graduate of Bard College, the Bostein connection hits extra close to home. I would say “I can’t believe that rape culture-celebrating silverback brohemian creep hasn’t resigned” … but of course I can. The post-MIT Joi Ito apologists are disgusting as well.

Worth thinking about how long Tolkien goes on in Return of the King about despair being a weapon, and presenting defeat as a forgone conclusion being a deliberate and effective tactic

baby adoption is one of those things that you never really think about until you realize that america has a multi-billion dollar baby broker industry with international babies being top dollar and you go "that's just semi-legal human trafficking, huh?" and adoptees go "we've been telling you that"

I do think a significant part of why cis people treat trans women like "oppression tourists" is that they genuinely believe we can just "take off the dress" and stop being oppressed at any time. It comes from a place of deep, apathetic ignorance about our lived experience, pre and post transition.
lotta cis people think we just throw on dresses and prance around bathrooms. They don’t realize that something as simple as your family still wanting you around is a massive luxury for us. that’s what we mean when we say cis privilege. They take for granted what we rarely have access to

What we do once we know is how we move forward. Some people still engage with the things that were formative for them, others don't or can't. My brain doesn't let me engage with things once I know its creator is appalling. So I mourn what I thought was, and seek new things to love.

It's really important to remember that Sandman isn't just Neil Gaiman. It's every artist who worked on the title, every colourist, every editor. 100 different hands worked to bring that story to the world for 70 issues. And it was all work for hire. That's another important thing to remember.

There's a large space between 'sharpen the pitchforks, we ride at dawn,' and 'Neil Gaiman who? I don't know him. And I won't say his name,' that people could occupy. A hot take isn't necessary, and neither is a repudiation of one or another of NG or the accusers.

Notice how once against it is tech money that drives this campaign? Moritz did a high profile departure from Sequoia Capital after they lost like $300m on FTX. It’s crypto gunning for Biden, really impressive (horrifying) power play by the least accountable jerks in our society.
Michael Moritz, the billionaire Silicon Valley venture capitalist and a top Democratic donor, is calling for President Biden to step aside, becoming one of the party’s largest contributors to go public with his concerns about the president’s candidacy.

“Your enemies want you to believe in this myth of their total power. They want us to cower in the face of it. You know what the antidote to this fear is? It's knowledge. It is understanding that our enemies are not supernatural. Our enemies are flesh and bone. They have power, but it is vulnerable.”
