Every big media organization was so crossed-up by Trump winning in 2016 that they have been behaving and hiring as if Long Island-Coded Suburbo-Racist Sociopathy was on an unstoppable ascent worldwide, and interpreting everything backwards from there. It turns out most people actually hate it!

This entire election has been in uncharted territory since January 6, 2021, and a whole lot of people who are handsomely paid to report on and explain elections are making a big public spectacle of being staggered by how they've just started to figure that out

Been thinking a lot about the famous William Goldman quote about Hollywood and what makes a hit movie: “Nobody knows anything.” Don’t trust anyone who pretends to know what will happen if Biden stays in or if he withdraws.

Surely everyone who set aside their personal ambitions in 2020 will line up in an orderly fashion and behave like little gentlemen and gentleladies when the press gives Biden one final whack and the candy spills out

It's difficult and annoying to talk about this because mainstream campaign reporters have always been addicted to covering everything as idiotic theater criticism, but part of the president's job really is to perform for the public and Biden is truly bad at it now

If you paid attention to Trump's side of the debate, he had the same underlying problem Biden did, where over and over he would start a sentence and realize he couldn't say or remember the words that would come next, but where Biden stalled out, Trump just switched to blurting something unrelated

Donald Trump has good days and bad days but increasingly only bad days. He's lost it - he can't focus and his brains are leaking out his ears, but the press is very impressed with him because HE CAN STILL SHOUT

Good thing the discussion was specifically and explicitly about something other than the debate!

They were all getting it wrong in one direction two weeks ago and now they’re stampeding to get it wrong in the other direction

It's true that a lot of Biden's problems have to do with getting the words out but he also flatass didn't have the basic agility to respond to Trump bragging about his record stock market by pointing out that the stock market is much higher now

Especially given that Biden was an erratic speaker in his prime—the question is how far off his cognitive baseline Biden is now, and if you're gonna push out a news alert every time he misspeaks and immediately corrects himself, you're just making it harder for the public to figure it out!

It’s pretty alarming how the reporters suddenly devoted to watchdogging Biden can’t tell the difference between real drastic glitches like in the debate and normal fumbling
