Similar to what @jbouie.bsky.social wrote about, here’s more pretending Democrats want a dictatorship in order to create a GOP dictatorship, this time from Claremont Institute americanmind.org/salvo/the-po...
Alito wants ppl to think Dems want “complete power”. But Ds just want to maintain pluralism&ability for parties to compete fairly. Pretending Ds want total control is a way to convince people that the Republican power grab is in self-defense. From @jbouie.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2024/06/14/o...

the striking thing about all of these breathless declarations of a post-constitutional order is that none of them ever actually describe with any substance the injustice or injury being done to them. it's taken as self-evident that they are being trampled by dictatorship.
Avatar
it is almost as if the injustice is simply that they have to share power with people they hate.

Democrats and the people who make up their coalition are illegitimate people, and if anything happens that is good for them, they must have orchestrated it by illegitimate means

"Conservativism consists of exactly one proposition..." We're trying to bind the elect and protect the undeserving; of course this is experienced by the unjust as evil—we *are* trying to take something from them.

Extremely “if we can’t own people, we become slaves” energy

There's that old saying, when you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression

They don't want to share power with people who want to share power.

Or whom they regard as non-people...

And their own crimes will be prosecuted

Forget "share power," they're mad that they just have to look at us and acknowledge we are human.

There are no greys with some people.

The concept that their having a say in society might depend on their forming a coalition to create a majority through compromise is utterly hateful to them, and they're willing to burn down the whole world to avoid the ego injury.

“The people who very recently kept electing Republicans governor of Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Vermont want absolute power”

"But the preacher sed we wuz under a salt."

That's what the outgroup du jour is all about. Outgroup exists, therefore "it's" being shoved down your throat, thus you need to support conveniently only Republicans to fight back.

Statements of belief to the faithful.

They also say Biden has brought America "to its knees" and I wonder where they have stuck their brain, because they are driving without a navigation system.

In the absence of context I’d see this passage and assume it was about capitalism.

does anyone even finish these articles?

So "... our legal system [is] fragile, weak, and on the verge of collapse ...". AND can be wielded "... as a tool to prosecute its political opponents with impunity ...". Neat trick. Right up there with Biden being incompetent but also able to manipulate a legal system that includes Republicans.

The complaint seems to be that the Biden administration... has the law on their side.
Fascists always paint their enemies as both pathetic weaklings and terrifying monsters who must be destroyed. It’s a weirdly common rhetorical tic.
Avatar
Yeah, the former makes them feel tough and the latter gives them an excuse to be violent.

As has been said every accusation is a confession with Trump’s Republican Party.
Every accusation is a confession if they’ve already done it and every accusation is a permission structure if they haven’t.
Avatar
This is like someone read Eco's Ur-Fascism and wrote some fan fic.

If this were the case, then the solution would be to bolster the independence of the judiciary and the sanctity of the rule of law. And yet their policies are built around someone who threatens nothing but the opposite. The *lying*.

This is just Homelander replaying the audio of him saying "I've been persecuted for my powers" over and over

You can see why projection is such a required tenet of fascism from practitioners like Alito and the suburban seditionist Claremont Institute. bsky.app/profile/nste...

Every time I read this Claremont garbage, I think it all sounds so familiar … at least in German.
