I saw this warning not to fight. As you know, I’m generally very polite, but I don’t appreciate being admonishments about disagreeing. Misinformation puts so many patients at risk and I will disagree robustly if need be. It’s not all about sharing pics of my enchanting pups. But here they are 😀

Oh what a terrible misunderstanding! I would not by ANY means encourage anyone not to fight! My post was very specific that fighting *in my mentions* has consequences: specifically, that the combatants will be blocked or muted. I hope that clears it up! All the best to you in your future endeavors

If someone states that getting COVID is a nothingburger in anyone’s mentions, or claims that seeds of a plant cure cancer so drop the chemo, I will respond. In anyone’s mentions. As a grown ass doctor, that’s what I have an ethical responsibility to do. So making your statement is odd.

Yes, I can see that you perceived my post, on an account you don’t follow, as an attack on your own ability to fight for truth (in, specifically, my mentions). It’s unfortunate that we have met, for the first and last time, under such circumstances!

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly one thing the former site had that Bluesky lacks is you can focus replies in a thread just at the person you're arguing with.
Avatar
Correct. You could tag out the op as is only polite when the back and forth gets out of hand.

OP blocking either fighter would achieve this

Yeah, it was a good feature. I'm surprised Elmo hasn't removed it yet.

I just went ahead and blocked that woman doctor person. Because I cannot today, and moreover I will not. Woof.

Bot account. No doctor in the history of medicine has ever referred themselves as “a grown ass doctor.” Not even Dr Seuss.

Your patience is the stuff of legends . . . like, seriously Greek myth-level.

Let's hope it's not the "lesson in hubris" sort of Greek Myth. ;)

I'm going to ask my daughter, an RN, what ethical responsibilities she has to respond to "falsehoods on the internet." Actually, I'm not. She knows I know the answer.

If people wanna fight misinformation on the internet, they're welcome to it. ON THEIR OWN FEED. But acting as if they have the right/obligation to do so in someone else's mentions? And then getting all superior at someone whose tweet that isn't even about her? Like, dang.
Avatar
That was an interesting thing yo mention, because my gut reaction to medical ethics (as a non-medical professional) would be "no medical advice"
Avatar
When one sees or hears someone else state an outright lie in a subject that one is extremely knowledgeable, and one says nothing, that makes one an enabler. This good Doctor does not enable falsehoods.

Well, I'm sure they preface it like lawyers do, as in "this is not legal advice."

There appears to be a confounding of personal medical advice (that’s should never be given on the internet) verses asserting medically accurate information (that’s entirely appropriate and should be done to counter misinformation).

Your grace and patience is something to be revered, Katie.

You are so much more generous of spirit than I am. I applaud you. Hope all is well; sending international fistbumps.

Yeeesh. Is this what feisty means now?

good that they didn't do that then.

That's fine. But quote-skeet it so you do not clutter up other people's mentions. Basic etiquette.
