Existing Trump supporters—including political reporters privately in sympathy with him—obviously experienced a powerful galvanizing emotion from the failed assassination attempt. They assumed that emotional experience would be widespread, but so far the polling doesn’t bear that out.

One thing I would note is that Wisconsin turnout is likely to be phenomenal in ways that are hard to be believed, given that everyone now can vote in their new state legislative districts. And there are a lot of angry Ds at having been held back for so long. i.e. I'm almost certain Biden wins WI.

Why would Dem leaders known for sending out texts saying the sky is falling to small donors, a seemingly phenomenally stupid tactic on its face designed to depress turnout, tell large donors the sky is falling?

very honestly if biden wins every single one of these people should be isolated and forced out. i don't care who you are. this is coward shit and you've shown awful political instincts.

This is pretty wild. And I think it's also a reminder that we're often bad at contextualizing statistics. It's not that if you come across 20 people at work or in a coffee shop this AM, it's likely one of them owns an AR-15: in some places, 1 out of 1000 people own one and in others, 1 out of 2 do.

If I say “anti-Blackness” and your response is “but I’m [marginalized]” you are part of the goddamn problem because I didn’t say shit about your marginalization, I was talking about anti-Blackness!

I’m actually still very angry about this and I’m not sure how I’m going to deal with it, but absolutely none of my coping strategies will include bullying white marginalized people because I’m actually interested in progress
Also I think we can dispense with the “he’s on vacation” because he’s posting pretty consistently on Threads now. Good work white posters, driving off two progressive Black columnists with national reach. You did it!

I think the reason we’ve been so surprised to see such astute analysis coming from these magazines is that we assume that they are mostly concerned with frivolous things. But it’s not a coincidence that both of these magazines have a predominantly female audience.
People taking its place alongside Teen Vogue as the best political analysis in the country.

Two things can be true: 1. The leader of an anti-democratic movement openly promotes political violence. 2. That same leader is the target of anti-democratic political violence. We don't yet know the connection between (1) and (2) but the message has got to be that both are unacceptable.

Every media reporter I am friends with is also filled with secrets about how many news organizations are incredibly problematic and why. Many journalists of color I know think about quitting *all the time*. We definitely don't stay for the lower salaries compared to white staff.

Butler County DA Richard Goldinger tells me Trump was grazed by gunfire but is safe. An audience member was killed and the shooter is dead. Another person is in serious condition. — Meryl Kornfield, WaPo (WTAE's Mike Valente earlier reported this from same source, but I'd been waiting to confirm)

Quick points: 1) Assassination attempts are bad, period. 2) We do not know the motives of the shooter. 2) We do not know the political consequences of this event. There were attempts to shoot Teddy Roosevelt, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter shortly before elections; they all survived and lost.

i once met dr. ruth, while i was with 3 fashion models, during the day, at central park. well, i mostly hung back, the fashion models went somewhat feral at realizing who she was.

“Blocked for mild criticism” I have blocked people for a sentence. I have blocked people for single words, and they weren’t even attacks. I have blocked people for their aesthetics. I can and will block you for my peace and you can do the same to me. That’s what we owe each other; nothing more.
Also you can block people for any reason. I’ve been holding off on a few people because of their followers, because I do give import to community and who finds value in a voice, but I’m not going to let you be rude to me or white as hell in my mentions just because. And same goes for me.

#giftlink For people of my generation in New York, Dr. Ruth was a font of non-judgmental frank information on sexuality & intimacy, in all forms. She likely saved many lives with her early “safe sex” evangelism when others ignored (or cheered) the AIDS epidemic. May her memory be for a blessing.
Ruth Westheimer, the Sex Guru Known as Dr. Ruth, Dies at 96www.nytimes.com Frank and funny, the taboo-breaking psychologist said things on television and radio that would have been shocking coming from almost anyone else.
