So apparently, SOME IMPORTANT THINGS are happening in American politics, but I just visited my family in Indiana for a mini-family reunion/birthday party and my biggest concern right now is how to get my aunt to send me sweet corn without it getting damaged in the mail.

Ok, my two thoughts on the November election (that literally no one asked for). 1. The donor class doesn’t have an heir apparent in mind at this stage of the game, so while they’re signaling Biden should drop out—there’s disagreement abt who should replace. 2. Biden’s EGO.

An article in the peer-reviewed medical journal The Lancet, using the conservative estimate of 4 indirect deaths in Gaza for every one direct death (in other conflicts it’s been 3-15x), calculates that Israel has killed approximately 186,000 Palestinians. That is 8% of the population of Gaza.
Counting the dead in Gaza: difficult but essentialwww.thelancet.com By June 19, 2024, 37 396 people had been killed in the Gaza Strip since the attack by Hamas and the Israeli invasion in October, 2023, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, as reported by the UN Offi...

“A court willing to declare the president beyond the reach of the law, regardless of the actions of either the president or Congress, could use that same power to cloak itself in the same immunity from legal process.” Excellent piece by Kate Shaw. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/02/o...

A very good piece which should be read widely. Institutions can be manipulated, we have always known that. Now what? Let’s go break some eggs.

a thing to remember, in all of this horror, is that these are not the actions of a political party that is confident it represents the will of the people, and who is currently out of power and enslaved to a deeply flawed avatar. the struggle is not over and they have not won

ChatGPT already has “Ph.D.-level intelligence,” in that once you remove it from its extremely narrow field of expertise (assembling words into credible-sounding passages) it is wildly out of its depth, but people vastly overestimate its authority because they don’t understand what “intelligence” is.

I'm hoping we don't have the earth-salting anti-southern problem here on Bluesky like we did at the other place but I'm glad this post is here as a sign for me to tap
We have to boil our tap water before we use it for several days at a time, several times a year, minimally. If this is news to you, it’s time to start paying closer attention to how conservative politics are entrenched and spreading. We are not “red” - we are voter suppressed.
