More anti-democratic thoughts from 2018 the NYT allowed this writer to exclude from his current piece. Delivered with an air of detached irony, as if he miiight be joking or exaggerating. But is he?
Avatar
The NYT also allowed him to exclude his partisan inclinations. From the 2018 piece: "In a bland way I hope to see Republicans control various state and national offices. This arises from a single issue: the legality of abortion."

If someone's telling me not to vote, I'd like to know their take on actual policies that are at stake in the election. The NYT, apparently, does not think that's relevant.
Avatar
Imagine for one second if the NYT marshaled its massive influence towards voter registration, towards supporting voting rights groups, towards encouraging people to vote and fighting people who try to stop people from voting. Imagine if the NYT actually championed participatory democracy.

NO KINGS. That's the bare minimum these days. NO KINGS. NO KINGS. NO KINGS.

On INDEPENDENCE DAY they published this. ON THE FOURTH OF JULY 2024 THE NEW YORK TIMES TOLD PEOPLE NOT TO VOTE. I'm furious.

Two copy edits, because I'm a writer: In the first post, just "July 4th" instead of "the July 4th" In the second post, "which are" instead of "which is"

The NYT opinion board is the largest act of journalistic malpractice around. Completely morally bankrupt.
I say to the New Yorkers "Don't buy nor subscribe to the NY Times and NY Post " !!!!

I've had it with The Old Gray Lady, I won't wrap fish in it

One of the things that gets me about all this Trump ass kissing; the same thing happened in NAZI Germany before Hitler came to power. Hitler still had all those newspaper/radio reporters killed and replaced them. Trump is following the same plan.

Just canceled my subscription. It was the last straw.

I felt the same. Fully. Will cancel over it. So freaking angry. And they had no comments open on it, either.

The New York Times has been the worst newspaper in North America for my entire lifetime of 56 years. This should surprise no one. Things only have the power you give them. Stop treating the New York Times like it’s important.

I couldn’t make it through the NYT article. It was banal and approaching unreadable. He makes such a weak argument, trying to hide it in $20 words to make it look intellectual. What a joker.
Avatar
The New York Times journalist who did in fact vote told people not to vote.

The bastion of liberalism: the New York Times.

Continues to amaze me what they publish out of the thousands of amazing submissions they assuredly receive per week

counterpoint: NOT being talked about

I’m sad America is over but reinstalling the monarchy just in time for the 4th does offer some satisfying narrative closure

Can't imagine why the owner of the NYT would be keen on the concept of hereditary right to rule.

Avatar
Yeah, but the Times publisher DOES want a king, so this is what it prints.
Avatar
A start would be No Kingsbury running the NYT oped page.

I am highly suspicious of people who tell others not to vote. If a person doesn’t want to vote, that’s their personal choice but to encourage others to opt out is shady as hell.
Avatar
I’m old enough to remember when Republicans smeared the NYT as being too far “left.”
Avatar
They still do. No matter how the NYT coddles them the Nazis will still vilify it

Unfortunately at this juncture voting won’t fix this mess.

That was a disorienting thought experiment.

Sorry, imagining the NYT championing participatory democracy is just too difficult. Easier to imagine that Santa Claus is real or this actually is Discworld.
Avatar
lol... "championed participatory democracy"

You might write this song 🎵 Imagine 🎵
Avatar
Well with this crap hopefully they are losing their influence.
Avatar
It’s so craven. They really think they’re getting ready for sweeps week, not….whatever the hell is about to happen.
Avatar
The problem is anyone still paying for a NYT subscription.

The @nytimes.com is trying to play you and it’s as subtle as a cat killing

Half an hour ago someone posted something that suggested they had looked up the author's voting record in the voting rolls, which doesn't say how we vote but whether we are registered, and found them. It might have showed that they have voted. If so, they are a lying hypocrite.
Avatar
They do think it’s relevant. Nothing they do is by accident. @nytimes.com is actively working on turning America into a right wing fascist state.
Avatar
Yeah, it feels pretty god damn relevant in this case.
