i keep seeing this RV with a big plea on the side reading “why are humans so inhumane to humans?” while also sporting the ICE tip line number and a “make america straight again” sign. we really need to bring cognitive dissonance back to this country.

Again, qualified immunity is one of those things that if you describe it to someone who has never heard of it in simple factual terms they will think you are entirely full of shit
are you fucking kidding me

it's important for outlets to explain that when we talk about AI "posing a threat to humanity," we're talking about the rushed implementation of half-cooked automation killing your grandma with an auto-rejection of her medicare claims, not sentient industrialized planet-scouring murderbots (for now)
UnitedHealth uses AI model with 90% error rate to deny care, lawsuit allegesarstechnica.com For the largest health insurer in the US, AI's error rate is like a feature, not a bug.

just finished watching Fantasmas… not at all what I was expecting from Julio Torres, but I gotta say, that tall guy in the cemetery with the little silver orb that flies around and kills people?? CLASSIC Julio

"liberal" transphobia is dangerous because it creates a political consensus. no, it's not going to move a lot of median voters, but it creates a space for bipartisan anti-trans policies. i watched this happen in the uk.
it’s wild how much of the left’s anger on this site is devoted to the NYT. media criticism is good and healthy but anyone who really thinks a newspaper that’s read mostly by coastal elites is the main obstacle to progressive policy goals in america in the year 2024 is living in a bubble

a key element of the appeal of Republicans to pencil-necked political reporters has always been the idea that the macho tough guys will let you be one of them if you side with the GOP and they'll call you a pussy if you side with the Dems

One of the big themes of racist violence in this period was the perpetrators being set off by the sight of Black vets in uniform, like it was particularly infuriating that they thought fighting for this country gave them a claim to it

The B in "Benoit B. Mandelbrot" is short for "Benoit B. Mandelbrot".

This is insane.
I learned at an engineering conference recently that one crypto mine in TX, 100s of MW, makes more money off ERCOT demand response markets than it does off crypto repeat: TX ratepayers pay them more to sometimes stop mining than they make by actual mining just bananas misuse of power markets 🔌💡

A friend’s turn of phrase has always stuck in my head: like an animal in a trap, we will often lash out most savagely at whoever is “close enough to claw.” We can’t always hurt our enemies, but we can always make our allies bleed

they should invent a comic that you get paid enough to draw

“National Conservatism” “Un-humans.” They’re barely even scratching off the serial numbers of Nazi bullshit. It’s like when Law & Order calls a social media site “FaceSpace.” We know what you mean.

Anyway yes content moderation is hard but when tech ghouls complain that content moderation is hard what they mean is that when you push out your product to as many people as possible with no safety features, then try to clean out the Nazis and peodophiles afterward, moderation is near impossible
I mean “extremely lucrative grift” coming from an AI peddler is like John Wayne Gacy saying somebody else’s clown paintings give off creepy vibes

Junior Scholars: Project 2025 is now breaking through to public consciousness. The more people learn about it, the more they hate it. Now is a great time to search that website, go to the section of your expertise, and write an oped. Keep the drip of bad news for them coming, all the way to Nov.

Yet another comics legend who can't afford to retire. Never stops being depressing.
With all the comic news yesterday I feel like this got ignored. Larry Hama has been struggling with medical problems and, from what I’ve gathered, still really depends on gigs to survive financially. His ability to draw is being taken away. He’s a living legend and badass. Deserves better.
