Here's the thing: the people pulling the fire alarm on Trump v. US are people like Radley, Legal Eagle and @kenwhite.bsky.social , etc. I've followed these guys for years and they are not prone to panic-mongering. They're usually the ones saying, "Take a deep breath". It really is that bad.

Anyone keeping track of the narratives pushed by law & order centrists during the pandemic that have disintegrated? I've got the shoplifting panic, cops quitting because of protesters, progressive DAs ushering in new age of crime & violence, bail reform = more crime . . . Others?
This narrative has been pushed by heterodox types for years. It never made much sense.

Wanting to see your opponents cry is a step up from most of history when people wanted to see their opponents dead.
You know, it will never make sense to have “make your opponents cry” as the sum total of your politics (for one thing, it yields the initiative) - but it’s definitely *one part* of politics, and one that Democrats ignore at their peril. 1/

I must admit that the fact that NR had their dream dangling so seemingly within reach, only to have it slip through their fingers, like a desert mirage, does make this whole thing even more enjoyable than it would have been already.

As a side note, this is John McEntee, Trump's Director of White House Personnel and the primary architect of Project 2025. On Tik Tok he said he gives counterfeit bills to homeless people so they will be arrested when they go to spend them.

about once a week, i have to explain to someone on the phone that the police have no obligation to do anything for you and, even if their refusal literally leads to your murder, the courts have been clear that there's no case to pursue
A man has been using Facebook to terrorize his ex and their children. He brags about it: “I want her to worry about who’s waiting on the corner.” But police do nothing and nobody seems to take it seriously. Chilling story from Stacy St Clair and Joe Mahr www.chicagotribune.com/2024/07/07/f...

Jesus Christ, who doesn't actually prefer this to 90 minutes of fashy dick swinging? Centrist ramble and then out in under 20. Love it.
Joe Biden just had an 18 minute rally speech and if we can normalize that length maybe he can stay in.

Years before this ruling, that was the defense trotted out by the Calm Down types: they didn’t do it! Too many people said no, I won’t commit crimes for you, Trump. They fail to realize there were multiple who were willing! If he’s reelected how many Jeff Clark’s do you wanna risk him appointing
I don't understand this point. Trump can just pardon them.

There are many aspects of a second Trump term that will be bad but probably the most vomit-inducing will be the J6 rioters being paraded around the Capitol as heroes.

Had a lot of fun writing this review of the Wizardry overhaul. Normally, I like to have at least something to bitch about in a review but I couldn't think of anything. It's exactly what I wanted. ordinary-times.com/2024/07/05/t...
