i would guess the justification is to keep people from flipping them for a quick profit like we've seen with many cars in the last couple years.
of course, those are cars that are actually in production and that people want to buy. unlike this thing
They don't have to, they probably don't want them to become scalper item, because Elon is an idiot and didn't setup production even after all these years 😂
ehhh, this was floated by ford as well with their lightnings after people were essentially scalping vehicles and keeping them out of the hands of people who could afford them and actually wanted to drive them and not treat them like investments.
I don't know if "sue for 50k" is the answer though.
Ford's concern wasn't with *customers* reselling Lightnings - it was with *dealerships* revoking a sale, then selling the truck for a much higher price than Ford's listing.
True, we had one of the first Lightnings in our region through government sales, the dealership was pissed and wanted us out of there with it ASAP. You could see the dollar signs in their eyes
Car companies were admittedly dealing with some extremely abnormal supply chain issues that limited their ability to produce cars to demand. It’s one of the reasons why we’ve been dealing with a fucked up car market for 3 years.
Ford was attempting to protect customers from dealers and scalpers.
It would be pleasant if everything were as simple as supply and demand and geopolitics and global supply chains had zero impact on national or local economics but alas it’s a pretty fucking grey world we live in.
ford sued john cena after he sold a ford gt he bought in 2017 and sold a few months later.
even tho he paid the car in full ford saw it as a breach of contract.
sorry but if i buy a car in full ... then its my car ... not theirs.
if i buy a cybertruck (never happen) i would sell it the next day
I understand why Ford does that, but it doesn't make it anymore okay or acceptable than when Cell Phone providers would have those awful fucking service plan contracts back in the day to even be able to have a phone and plan.
I wouldn’t accept those terms either, but they’re doing it (Ford does this with the F-150 Lightning too) to prevent a predatory secondary resale/flipper market
I particularly like the part where, if you sell it back to the factory because of its shoddy construction quality, they can charge you for the shoddy construction quality.
It sounds like Tesla will buy them back at close to full cost. Which makes me think they are having so much trouble making them that they would rather get the returns given to a new sucker through them to fulfill their pre orders.
