Raising the issue is a start. Trump's supporters said they wanted to drain the swamp. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The Federalist Society wasn't preparing lists of judges picked to legislate from the bench when the founders designed the system. Didn't the original Constitution say that whoever got 2nd place would be VP?

Totally agree.

If nothing else it is a campaign issue that people understand. Not everything can be accomplished quickly, though

I think doing nothing is more dangerous. Don't comply in advance by making it easy for them to just take over more power than they were meant to have.

I know they are not apples to apples comparisons, and I don't think a blood bath created by firing into crowds on Jan 6 would have been a good option. It just seems like our whole sitting legislature and VP deserved better protection than they got.

And that is not meant as a criticism of any of the brave men and women on the ground who did protect our senators, representatives, and VP on Jan 6. Nor is it meant to imply that everything went well on July 13.

I wonder if SCOTUS could find this in the Constitution?

If Trump wins, having Vance as VP would be very bad. Let's hope this VP nomination causes a drop in support. However, if they lose the election, they will still insist they won and start agitating.

I don't think it is pure laziness. Maybe they worry they will get fired. Maybe they worry about hate mail and death threats. Maybe they know the editors won't publish if they talk about certain things. Maybe they worry that they will be unsafe if Trump wins. And maybe laziness, too.

A detail I hadn't thought about: Jack Smith hadn't yet been appointed when the search of Mar-a- Lago occurred. Jack Smith's appointment has no bearing on the underlying facts of the case or the applicable law.

In theory, the local U.S. attorney could re-indict the case. You might get a thicket of who-gathered-what-evidence, but the search of Mar-a-Lago and the discovery of the documents themselves happened months before a special counsel was appointed.

Thanks. I am still processing, and my brain gets caught on different things at different times. Today, my brain is caught on the 86 seconds it took the secret service to "neutralize" the shooter, compared with the 187 minutes Trump was derelict in his duties on January 6.

I used this as a pretext to tell my rep that court reform was a top issue for me and asked them support AOC’s push to impeach Thomas and Alito

Judge Cannon went and did it. She has dismissed the stolen documents case against Trump on Clarence Thomas’s (nonsense) appointments clause rationale.
