It’s remarkable how much more clear-eyed and unspun the financial press is right now when compared to politics-first outlets. This is almost the entirety of Bloomberg’s latest write-up, which does its best to present straightforward facts and specific uncertainties rather than filling in blanks.

If they do put Kamala Harris on the top of the ticket, I am prepared for a level of misogynoir unwitnessed since Rosa Parks sat down on that bus.

“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.
This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.

"The preliminary results upended widespread predictions of a clear victory for the National Rally," says the NYT just now. Wait, who made these predictions of a massive victory for the National Rally again? Oh yeah, these guys did:

Let's say you're right. Mr. Beast's deepest, most secret heart is as cold and rotten as the grave. He has us all fooled. The most brilliant sociopath to ever exist. Still doesn't matter. 100 families are sleeping on real beds in real homes tonight.

I keep thinking about how the SCOTUS justices, who have proven they care a TON about their media coverage, issued the worst decision since Dredd Scott and then got to happily watch outlets spend the next week running 10,000 “Biden in Trouble” stories and like 5 “Hm, Immunity is Interesting” stories

Man, I wish we had runoff elections here. You get the first election where you fuck up, and then everybody gets a chance to think about it and prevent the worst from happening a couple weeks later

Meanwhile eight states, seven Democratic trifectas (CA, CO, MA, ME, MI, MN, NM) and Vermont, took a lesson from the pandemic and made universal free school meals permanent.
The governors of a dozen Republican-led states — AL, AK, FL, GA, IA, MS, OK, SC, SD, TX, UT, WY — opted out of a new federal food assistance program, leaving about 9.5 million students without the aid this summer

Seventy-six years ago today, Cleveland signed Satchel Paige for its championship run of 1948. Here's one of my favorite interview snippets that I found while researching "Our Team." It's from a story in 1971 when Paige is being elected into the HOF. The last line is classic Paige

1. Voters generally reject fascism when they know that's the choice. 2. Thus, the MAGA freakout at people figuring out what Project 2025 does.

Please note the wildly incorrect polling in France. No matter what the cacophony of pundits keep saying, polls are not predictive, and are never the end of the story. Organizing, volunteering, engaging in conversation, and direct action are effective tools. Let's use them here too.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

I really don’t think most people realize just how hard the boot will come down if Trump and the Republicans win the election. Most people have never experienced the totalitarian surveillance state with the power to reach into their homes and minds at will they are telling us is their plan.

Here’s where we disagree. I don’t think there is serious debate going on in the Democratic Party. Seth Moulton is not evidence of serious debate inside the party. I think there is a flood of articles in the media trying to make you think there is a serious debate going on in the Democratic Party.

There’s a real revolutionary mindset in some of these pundit and Dem circles right now, where “remove Biden” has become an end unto itself, unquestionably correct, and anyone who tries to hold back the tide of history is an obstacle, and this is where revolutions get into trouble frankly

Just a reminder that Michelle Wolf nailed it at the White House Correspondents Dinner. NYT, I’m looking in your direction especially.

We’ve returned to the olden days, when word-of-mouth was the only real way to advertise. As an author, if you enjoy a book, please: tell your friends. Your group chat, your sewing circle, your family WhatsApp, your work Slack, the voice channel of your MMORPG guild, anything.
Hey, so. I understand that this is anecdotal and not research, but. It is WILD how useless social media has become for promo. It's a fucking disgrace, really.

bad luck for biden to run in an electoral cycle where "are you old" is the most important issue instead of in one of the cycles where email security procedures or accuracy of vietnam war medal citations was the most important issue in the country.

It’s also terrible luck for Biden to be president in a time where, unlike all previous economies, the strength of the economy was solely judged by “cumulative inflation over a four-year period” instead of the inflation rate, unemployment rate, GDP, stock market, real consumption, or job satisfaction
