^I have a stable rake. It's 4 decades old. I've had to replace both the handle and the head in the recent past. My friends are amazed it's lasted so long as theirs never last very long. I guess they just don't make things so good any more.^ Hahaha!

Yep, there's also @alttext.bsky.social which will attempt to analyze photos with computer vision and autogenerate an alt, and #Alt4Me which will add it to volunteer feeds where folks will study the pictures and write you alt texts as replies to help.

This is almost too perfect hahaha. My favourite thing in the world (slight exaggeration perhaps) is when the UK pop band, Sugababes, were referred to as like the Ship of Theseus because they underwent so many lineup changes that ultimately the band featured none of its original singers…
Avatar
…and then the original band reformed and reclaimed the name ‘Sugababes’ which added another layer to the story - and maybe to the philosophical dilemma, too, if you want to extend the absurd metaphor and complicate it even further (which frankly, I do haha) x

The words "ship of theseus" have remained constant.

The brilliant gambit is that changing it piecemeal makes it more like the original.

We need to lure that account over here. I promise there are so many Wikipedia nerds here

all that text has been under the same title, so I think that's proof of continuity
Avatar
But if you create a new article with a different, still-appropriate title but the same text as the original...

There are some jokes which are so self evident that we deem them too easy to bother making, and yet others which are so self evident that they must be made out of a simple sense of duty to humanity.
Avatar
That's just beautiful.
Avatar
But if you made a second article with all the original phrases which one is the real one?

I have such a bicycle - I upgraded it and modified it a couple of times, and then the frame cracked and got replaced. If I now replace the front derailleur and the handlebar nothing is left from the original bicycle, but it's still a fully functional bicycle
Avatar
That’s actually pretty incredible

I needed this in my very bleak life today

The parallels😂 Since body cells get replaced over time I could argue that I am not the same person who signed for those student loans, and therefore I don't really need to pay them back. 💰💰 😂👁️👂👃👅🤣

When i was growing up, our next door neighbors did this for a house. They couldn’t bulldoze it and build new, because the house was in a wetland. So they intentionally, slowly replaced this rotting log cabin. One wall every 6 months or so
I once was flagged by Facebook for using the term “Ship of Theseus” in a completely innocuous post, they quarantined it and made me delete it. I have no explanation other than the moderation algorithm glitched…
Avatar
The phrase and be disassembled and rearranged into "Oh, us fist sheep", so that's probably why
Well that makes as much sense as any other explanation! 🤷‍♂️

Definition of an intellectual used to be if they could hear the W Tell overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger, now it’s if they say like Theseus’ Ship instead of Trigger’s Broom.
