Sitting right by two middle aged white guys in a diner. One guy said, “Somebody tried to kill Trump.” The other guy said, “He’s such a dick.” They both grunted affirmation, then started talking about Shōgun. Later, they explained the timeline of Better Call Saul to each other.

I took a trip to the Boundary Waters in high school, paddling & camping in the wilderness for a week with my dad, a friend, and his dad and brother. It was, honest to god, one of the best experiences of my life and the idea of brutalizing that amazing wild landscape is vile beyond description.

Now everyone--The Times and, sorry to say, MSNBC--is noting every missed syllable. The man has a stutter. I don't stutter but I am a mushmouth who speaks too fast and slurs words. I've had to overcome fear of public speaking. I have empathy for Biden. The press has empathy for no one (but Trump).

what are we doing here? he accidentally said million instead of billion and then immediately knew it and corrected himself. he didn’t “flub a line” and then “make an effort to correct himself,” he did the speaking equivalent of a typo that you know you’ve made and instantly correct

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

Trump is essentially admitting that he has had communications with Putin about continuing to hold Wall Street Journal Reporter Evan Gershkovich until after the election. Just like Reagan did with the Iran hostages in 1980.
