apropos of uhhhhhhh everything, reposting this again

As well-meaning publishers try to navigate the coming storm of state laws against diversity, I hope they'll consider Timothy Snyder's Rule #1 (from his slim book ON TYRANNY).

Democrats cannot afford to play by the old rules. It’s like showing up for a boxing match and one person brings a baseball bat and the other one says “Yes, well, I don’t want to break the rules. I’m still going to punch with my fists.” We need some Mitch McConnell shenanigans on our side.

I do think the corporate interests propping up Trump really have not thought through the fact there is pretty much no scenario in which the U.S. economy under a Trumpian reign of terror comes out looking *better*. A few oligarchs I’m sure are betting they’ll win big, but the vast majority won’t.

Also why I’m not saying that I’m an advocate for California secession, it’s also one of those things that starts looking a little more *feasible* to a lot of people as the GOP continues to ramp up in insanity (which will also be very bad for business, which Silicon Valley MAY care about).

If CEOs of tech companies think that they will prevail over Creepy Miller or the Heritage Taliban, they are nuts. The tariffs, the world view, and flat out fear will plummet the stock market, trade in general and confidence in the US.

Just a suggestion.

A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

I don’t recall the NYT calling for Trump to step down after being convicted of 34 counts of fraud and being called by a judge at his civil trial a rapist in the common person sense
