This. I am angrier about this case than any other one. Between this and the presidential immunity ruling, if Trump becomes president it's very clear that we'll no longer have any national secrets. They'll all be sold to the highest bidders. Our military will be left out to d̶r̶y̶ die.
In all seriousness: the very idea that someone can take highly classified documents, store them in a public place, defy any number of requests, subpoenas, etc., and then face NO CONSEQUENCES AT ALL is genuinely shocking, and should terrify anyone who cares about national security.

This is how "AI" should be done. By starting with the question of "what tedious/repetitive task can we have automation do to free up people's time?" rather than "how can we make things cheaper for the corporations?"

This. While I was never a big VtM fan, there's a part of my brain that asks "How would a Ventrue say this?" when I have to be incredibly authoritative at work. I'll switch almost immediately back to "eccentric unicorn lady" - which is my work default.
So much of authority is cosplay

Huh, shocking. This, along with a couple hundred similar studies and trial efforts around the world that have shown the same results, are of course not going to be enough to convince the very serious people who will call for further study before getting OUT OF THE WAY OF A SOLUTION TO A REAL PROBLEM
Individuals who received the $1,000/mo or $500/mo payments were more likely to find a stable, full-time job than before they received the basic income. Results showed 45% of participants secured housing, while $589,214 was saved in public service costs. "It's freedom. It's freedom from poverty..."
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants had housing.www.businessinsider.com Participants in Denver's basic income program received up to $1,000 a month. They became more housing secure and landed full-time jobs.

Over at @lawgunsmoney.bsky.social, some thoughts on how the term "AI" is increasingly being used to describe all algorithmic tools, new and preexisting, as a way of obscuring the fact that LLM-based text and image generators are effectively useless. With examples from my own workplace.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

One of the toughest problems Microsoft has to solve is that Windows has to serve two very different types of users: business users who don't want this at all, and home users who don't want this at all.

Worth pointing out that Voyager 1 is over 15 billion miles away and the tech it's using was launched into space a week before the Atari 2600 came out. A private corporation would have written this thing off years ago. FUND NASA.

Me: I really enjoy that memory. We should do that thing again. It comforts me to think about it. Brain: We added anxiety so you can only think about the last time that you did that and it was awful so you'll never be able to be happy about it ever. Me: ...but... Brain: EVER.

I’m currently reading up on an old Irish term for a person who likes to stay home by the warmth and comfort of the fireplace (a person we might today call a couch potato). The term, cailleach na luatha, should immediately replace couch potato though. It essentially means “divine hag of the ashes”
