A close reading of a lot of articles is that the bar for coverage critical of Biden is very low right now. A member of Congress calling on him to step down is hard news, but there’s a slew of stuff out there about anon memos, leaked polls, donors pissing and moaning on calls, etc.

Step 1: assume an “orderly process”

Cannot emphasize enough how pathetic these editorial boards are revealing themselves to be.

Not for nothing the first thing they teach you in hack school is that campaigns have limited resources and the one you can't control is time. The last week of speculation has consumed about 6% of the clock till Election Day. (And that's not even the real clock anymore thanks to early voting.)

I love the America that every abolitionist, unionist and suffragist insisted it could be. I love the Grand Canyon, the Appalachians, and the Coastal Plains. I love the people, the mob, the crowd, the mass. All the great work of the world is done through them.

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸
