It’s a great album.
As the world's oldest Charli XCX fan, I'm glad "Brat" rules bc she had a big opening on the "Barbie" soundtrack and bricked it. Zero-effort song, get that outta here

I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:
if you’re waiting for everyone around you to wake up, you’ll wait forever. this is how the people grinding our bones to make their bread WANT you to be. paralyzed, alienated & purposeless

Pretty much every move I’ve ever made in comics since age 25 has been inspired by the 70-year-olds I saw in comic con Artist Alleys, cranking out sketches of characters they created but don’t own, to pay their doctor bills and nursing home fees.

OK besides this below and DEVO coming out of the Kent State massacre, what are other facts you have about the evolution of art / music /etc that wouldn't be obvious if you didn't know but, retroactively, explain and/or illuminate a LOT ?

Speaking as a semanticist, it's wild to me that they are phrasing it in terms of whether an *act* is characterized as "official", when what they seem to actually be talking about is whether there exists a *description* of the act that can be characterized as "official".

Biden’s other problem is that his only memorable line was that Trump has “the morals of an alley cat”, which fundamentally misreads how people feel about cats in 2024 vs 1954

I hate it when people call women ‘females’ and men ‘males’. It feels reductive, essentialist, and dehumanizing. I have heard people across the political spectrum do this, and I can not understand why it became a thing. It sucks and join me in saying no to it.

It took them about 15 minutes to decide that the actual text of section 3 of the 14th Amendment was unenforceable and optional, and months to deliberate on the extent of a completely invented presidential immunity that’s not in the constitution at all. Objectively pro-insurrection behavior
It remains astonishing that SCOTUS waited weeks to even announce they were taking on the presidential immunity case and now we stand on the eve of the last scheduled day of decisions and they still haven't released it -- all but guaranteeing Trump will not face a federal jury before the election.

Unpopular opinion: having a merch drop ready with a not terribly clever post about a cheesy mug you're selling is the most cringe way for Hillary Clinton to recognize what's happened. Will say, this seems like a very quintessentially Hillary Clinton way to respond.

It's very popular on my feed to love Stormy Daniels. I can't forget that if she'd told her story at the election, it would have come out when it mattered...and instead she wanted money to not speak, and was paid off to not speak. She worked with Trump.

Drawing attention to this—one of the times I was thrown out of an apartment without cause in NYC where I had been a great tenant for years would have been prevented by this law. KNOW YOUR NEW RIGHTS.
Is that rent hike legal? These are the new rights for NYC tenants with 'good cause' in effect.gothamist.com Are you eligible for good cause protections? What can you do to challenge your landlord? We answer your questions about the new tenant protections.

Rufo, Weiss, the whole “anti-cancel culture, anti-woke” industry - what they really sell is INDULGENCE. They’re selling you material that gives you permission to indulge in petty biases and resentments against groups many already find unlikable.
Rufo is a bigot across the spectrum of bigotry but in Judd’s piece, Rufo’s misogyny stands out. He’s a creepy grifter who has snowed so many people just by telling them endlessly that women and minorities are the problem

for one week can all game shows have dogs instead of people for contestants and when they get a question wrong they still get treats but the dog who comes closest to getting a question right gets to chase the host around the studio. And then the runners up also join in. Please. I need this

It's worth saying that it's not an "antidemocratic" decision. What's antidemocratic is ignoring safety standards people installed over a hundred years ago, after another insurrection, designed to prevent the government from being overthrown.
