I'll say more about this in my newsletter today but the "tempers flare" narrative on supposed acrimony between Trump and anti-abortion GOPers is not a secret fight that the press has exposed. It's a performance meant to reassure anti-abortion voters that Trump will do what they want.

As much as it might be comforting to think so, these folks are in and part of broad communities. Also: seems not great to make an inbreeding joke about people whose politics promote eugenics. You can’t wish people away to their own oblivion. Other people live there.

A1 in the Sunday paper (today), yes! Wild, unfortunate placement.

It’s not the rosy view that bothers me nearly as much as how she gets to it: by avoiding all the history you cite here. And based on her previous reporting, mostly on white evangelicals, she should know and she should have known for some time.

And the fact that the piece didn't even mention that northern Idaho has been regarded as a haven for neo-Nazis and white supremacists since the Aryan Nations set up shop there in the 1970s is just a gobsmacking omission.

I know they get rolled all the time but for the Times to get rolled by “actually they just want to reclaim the values of Western civilization as they see it … with larger families and fewer immigrants” is the Times putting the 14 words in the paper
