actually i think this website is pretty evidently made to interact with your friends and the fact that some ppl see any given social space as a space for combat and unpleasantness says more about them than it does about the site
like any given social space, bluesky is capable of supporting the whole breadth of human interaction. you can find friends here, or lovers, or just people whose thoughts you enjoy. of course, just like in any other social space, you *can* also just be a jackass all the time. but again, thats on you
I very much appreciate the idea that you can just be on here to enjoy people's thoughts...it's definitely why I'm here but I wouldn't have known how to phrase it.

One of the things this site is great for, is showing queer folks just living their lives. Happy, or at least more satisfied than if they had to hide on more popular social media.
It bothers the hell out of me that they want to fight so much instead.

Disagree hard on that one. Social media is poor for actual interaction of any value. Bite sized posts shoved into town square models are doomed for rubbing ppl the wrong way & you'll spend your time curating it to stop that.🤷♀️

Like what I love about the people I follow here is that they often talk about the people and activities they like.
Oh my gosh some of us really would prefer to be positive and nice! Drives me up a wall when someone suggests that's all fake or deluded, huge red flag that whoever said it is gonna give me stress ulcers.
Also…what if we come here for community? Like, trans folks lifting each other up seems a lot more fun and happier than trans folks tearing each other down.

They see being an asshole as a bit of fun role playing and are confused when people call them out for being an asshole
i wish i even partially understood the urge to be aggro and pvp on social media. what's the point of starting fights with strangers? and why is not doing that apparently kindergartner behavior to those people. I don't want to do it, I just wish I understood why the fuck someone would want to
for real, like what I liked most about this place just after I joined was how much it felt like old forums. sure there were emnities, but no one really got into it (back then that was because mods would just nuke all the bickery posts but nvm that)

Maybe I'm just an old luddite, but I don't ever see the real big fights and drama.
My feed is so chaotic that things like this just aren't amplified, I see more talking about drama without context of the actual drama.
The effectiveness of the nuclear block kinda shows that literally this is one of the few social media sites explicitly trying to STOP that kinda shithead behavior

like for me this is the most social, social media site I've ever been a part of. Really reminds me some old phpbb forums I belonged to way back when, both in the good and bad ways.
One of them said something along the lines that they serve a purpose on this site by doing this. Real “you can’t handle the truth!” shit justification.
Ahh I remember now why Salty was one of the first people I blocked on this site when we got blocking capability.

This place was explicitly made as a replacement for Twitter, which under new management had devolved into a shitstorm of vicious attacks against marginalized groups. Pretty much from day 1 it was a safe space for trans people and SWs, and people like this seem to hate that.
