BREAKING: A judge has blocked Uber, DoorDash and Grubhub's attempt to prevent an a new NYC minimum wage for delivery drivers.
Now, the $18/hr rate for 60,000 New York City delivery workers can move forward.
The doordash story:
"hey, do you like getting pizza delivered? What if you could get ANYTHING delivered?"
neat!
"It's gonna be more expensive"
okay
"A LOT more expensive."
o....Kay
"And it's gonna make that pizza more expensive."
Wut?
"And we won't pay our drivers, so eventually we'll be gone."
Ooooo I want to boycott them so fucking badly over this but I want the workers to get paid.
They need a union.
We also need a disabilities union.
EVERYONE NEEDS A UNION
Yes, rich old foreign white dudes determining how united states pays its employees. Seems to be a growing trend. Capitalism is yummy! Cant wait to see the entire country get sold to foreign investors.
And somehow I bet they don't just suddenly disappear from the NYC market and find a way to continue being competitive, even if it means cutting some bonuses or something.
Uber drivers entitled to workers’ rights, UK supreme court rules.
Decision means drivers should receive minimum wage and paid holidays, say lawyers

I mean this is a win for everyone else, but I wouldn't be surprised when Uber, door dash, and GrubHub all leave NYC now. Doesn't make any sense to stay and take losses.
Will there be a mandate on the percentage of orders a driver must accept?
What if a driver logs in and just rejects the deliveries, how will that factor into the minimum rate?
I’m not against the rate, but I could see the companies changing their acceptance policies.
