I think the minute it turned out to be a white Republican kid with his dad’s AR-15, they realized there was zero value in it. That’s how you know the info is true: if there was a way to make the kid an immigrant LBGTQ antifa Democrat, they’d be talking about it non-stop.

This news is incredible. 100 days this year CA's used 100% renewables to power the entire grid, & through a heat wave, there's been no significant disruption (cough *Texas*). Energy analysts are seeing a "phase-change" of the grid with the addition of 5 nuclear plants worth of battery storage, wow
"No rolling blackouts or grid emergencies as California continues on path to a carbon free grid. Several strategies, including upgrades to vulnerable parts of the grid at play here, but key enabler is more clean energy, especially solar, and above all, battery storage..." 😀

Also think of what it means infrastructure-wise that California has been able to add 5 "big" nuclear plants worth of capacity--understanding of course that they're not the same--almost all in the last couple of years. It takes decades to build new nuke plants, but not batteries. America's back, baby

JD Vance’s VC firm is Narya Capital. Thiel is behind Palantir, Valar Ventures, and Mithril Capital. Palmer Luckey’s Andruil is a tech weapons company. How do we reclaim Lord of the Rings from some of the most evil people in the world?

FWIW, I find it *especially* rich that Meta board Member Andreessen is claiming that he thinks Trump is better for his "little tech" agenda against "big tech." No one on the board of Meta is in favor of a "little tech" agenda.

I often think about how Rwandan radio mixed together pop culture & culture war, calling Tutsis vermin & making "jokes" about killing them. Accusing your opponent of things you want to do yourself was a big thing there too.
I’d be the first to tell you that I think GOP Americans COULD be pushed over the edge to “killing their family and neighbors for being Democrats,” because that’s true of every human group - but I also don’t think we’re there YET. Which is also why Trump must never become President.

“The center is whatever position I personally hold” has always been the subtext of these sort of statements, but now the center apparently includes banning IVF and allowing your employer to make you work 60+ hours in a week without OT.

It’s not just the military who will be the problem on American streets. It didn’t get much attention at the time, but Trump kept suggesting in 2020 that local police shouldn’t listen to their liberal city mayors. Those suggestions will become much more explicit instructions next year.
I’m not a serious journalist or anything but it seems to me there’s a clear direct through line to achieve Trump and millers goals here if you also look at “deploy the military into cities to fight crime” and “end birthright citizenship” as part of a connected plan here

Guess what we need is MORE warrantless mass surveillance & fusion centers & cops around to solve the problem of cops being just dogshit at their jobs so it doesn't matter how many tools and toys u give em, they can't see the broad side of an assassin bc they're only looking at homeless Black people

Count down until THOSE impotent lazy pigfucking cops are ALSO called heroes who TECHNICALLY saved Trump's life bc there's no law but the butterfly effect law now bsky.app/profile/crim...

I'd add that the official deportation project, as lawless as it will be, will also provide cover for a private campaign of intimidation and terror. A goal--perhaps the primary goal--is to unleash immigration vigilantes on their communities.
One of the reasons most folks struggle here to conceptualize it is that immigration courts are part of the executive branch, not the judicial branch. Which means virtually everyone's basic conception of what this system actually *is* is just wrong.

One element that I don't think most people understand yet is how decentralized Trump 2.0 is going to be. They're going to fire 50,000 government workers and install the most unhinged Trump-loving assholes they can find. Each one will be a mini-dictator who can harass every perceived enemy.
Can hardly wait for Times writers to learn that freedom of the press will only be for certain definitions of the word “press”.

it’s always funny to me when Republicans who live in red states refer to California as a dystopian shithole

They’re stuck in 2001 when Enron fuckery was in part responsible for California’s rolling blackouts, when we saw the problems and fixed them. For the most part… California still has energy issues, but lots of those problems are due to the power companies & not state policies.

When we in California had our worse electricity crisis in 2000, it was because of market manipulation by a very Texas company you might remember
