the landmine was the first autonomous AI weapon. the complexity of the iir logic in modern ASMs make them qualify as drones that can autonomously decide to kill humans in my book.

Autonomous, but not intelligent, as many civilians in Afghanistan, Laos, Vietnam, etc. will attest.

This, and America still uses them and considers them essential. They are horrific but I bet Ukraine wishes they had lines their border with Russian with them before the war.

Only parts of the line of contact in the Donbas were heavily mined, with a vast majority of the huge boundary with Russia unfortified. You can see where the fortifications and mines were the densest like Avdiivka or Marinka, which were the front lines since 2014 and still are 2yrs into full invasion

What could go wrong?

If only there were movies and books that could predict. Actually, the best part is that you know that some vendor that worked on this is named something like Cyberdyne because these people never actually get the literature that inspires their decisions
