Costco’s new CFO confirms the price of its hot-dog-and-soda combo will stay at $1.50: “I want to confirm the $1.50 hot dog price is safe” The price has remained unchanged since the item was added to menus in the mid-1980s www.kxan.com/news/nationa...

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about. Every time I go to Costco for a hot dog, it costs me about $350.

Good! Textbook loss leader, not even sure jacking up the price is a good move from a business POV

I had a Costco hot dog with fries last Sunday after getting a COVID booster at their Pharmacy.

Forget the fries and chicken strips(!), Canadian Costco still offers Polish Sausage? And the hot dog picture doesn’t falsely advertise onions and relish that they stopped offering here years ago (along with the spicy mustard).
Avatar
i fucking miss their polish with sauerkraut and i might just drive to canada to get it.

Yes they still offer polish sausage and all the condiments. Plus I see people refilling their drink cups. I don't know if that's a sneaky thing or if it's allowed.

Of course there's a poutine option! 😂 TBH, I'd be so into the chicken strip combo—too bad we don't have that. (At least, not here in Indiana.)

wait till you learn canadian Costco has chicken strips and poutine

Oh shiiiitttt. Poutine???? Jealous

Costco has one of the highest revenue per employee among the corporate world. If these guys can’t maintain their 1.50 hotdog, nobody can. Its like Arizona ice teas going to 1.25. You know it’s bad when arizona raises their price.
Costco is the best.

Honestly this might be the only thing capable of getting bipartisan support anymore. They're making the right choice, for democracy.

Lol the intensity of his hot dog passion is amazing

isn’t 1.50 for a hotdog in the 80s a really bad deal?
Avatar
I grew up near Kirkland and would stop when passing by Costco in the late 80s just to pick up a hot dog. It was the best deal around for a poor teenager.
Avatar
I would pay more if they brought back Coca Cola instead of rancid Pepsi products, it's less of a value with Pepsi

I’m always amused when people uncomfortably ask me what’s up w/all the S. Asian Am’s shopping @ Costco. Um we like delicious international food & deals. And now I want a hot dog.

Costco sells large quantities of staple goods for a lot of cultures' cuisines at good prices. Really head scratcher there. People are so weird sometimes.
Avatar
I think it’s because they’re not used to seeing so many of us in one place but being raised w/more exposure in multicultural cuisines definitely plays into why Costco has a more mixed customer base across the board.
Avatar
Ah that makes sense. I am originally from the SF Bay Area so I often notice the opposite - when places only have a monoculture present. Exposure to diversity or lack there of really does wire your brain in different ways.
Avatar
I grew up w/a lot of exposure & used to notice the opposite as well but my in laws are mostly 4th & 5th generation Texan from a part of DFW that had very little diversity. Their experiences have helped me better understand how some decent people get caught up in fear but are also capable of change.

I dread to think what type of meat this hot dog is constituted of.

And served up by union workers.

I imagine the same as any other hot dog and they are huge. They are tasty, I’ve never been able to eat more that 3/4 of one.
Avatar
Aren’t they the Kirkland hot dogs? Costco don’t cheap out on their store brand, etc
Avatar
Yes, but a bigger size than you can buy off the shelves
Avatar
Next time I am in the US, I must give it a try!
Avatar
They’re beef. Way back when they were kosher but I don’t believe they have been since Costco began making them themselves.
Avatar

as opposed to other hot dogs, which you are sanguine about.
Avatar
Very good point. Best not to learn how the hot dog sausage is made. Perhaps I was just being a snob.
Avatar
This reads like lore. Like, this is basically a free press release.
Avatar
That list line is the best line ever

I saw this on a bumper sticker yesterday and was totally puzzled! So thanks for sharing - now I know 🙂

In other news they announced the hot dogs may contain more meat by products
