I read this book a number of years ago and still find it genuinely disturbing.
I will bang this drum forever: in THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE FREE: THE GERMANS, 1933-45 Milton Mayer interviewed 10 ordinary Germans after WW2 to learn how fascism took hold. There was never a moment when everyone woke up:

This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.
tom nichols—of all people???—just made a good point: you have to talk about P2025 in simple real people terms. not policy wonk terms.

There was a time when the local high school in this Southside #Chicago neighborhood had the best teams in the country. Due in part to two players, who each have their own blog post. It didn't hurt that Amos Alonzo Stagg was coaching some of the time (in hopes of recruiting the players). 1/3

This is so important, and yet almost impossible to make people care about. I have a friend who runs a federal agency (sub-cabinet level) and is doing a terrific job, making excellent progress for stakeholders, but “Govt Agency Succeeds” is not a story that gets published.
Some reduce the 2024 campaign to a contest between two old men, but it's a choice of two slates of federal appointees who'll impact your life in a million ways. Biden has staffed executive agencies with excellent choices who are doing good work. Trump will empower an army of Stephen Millers.

Under current law, you really couldn’t do much better than Biden’s FTC and NRLB. New Deal shit.

Medicines too. The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 was necessary because 1) Formaldehyde was being used as a food preservative as the country urbanized and 2) Drugs were basically worthless snake oil.
really not enjoying the prospect of GOP ghouls deciding that the country needs to relearn the lesson of “why food safety regulation is important” the hard way

No-fault divorce led to a 20% decline in women’s suicide. I’m struggling to foment a response that isn’t just OMFG. Thank goodness we have no-fault divorce, and holy shit what a condemnation of our culture. The implications are just appalling, all the way through.
divorce literally saves lives

Anyone have any experience with electric wheelchairs? I'm looking to buy my first as my parents' health is no longer good enough to push me in my manual wheelchair. It must be foldable and fit in the car boot that's pretty much my only criteria. RTs for more eyes please
