Reminds me of a video of some newly-fledged bird who hadn't quite figured out that opening their mouth and yelling at food doesn't magically make it jump in.
Actually there is a sequence of 3 photos.. the intense “my body is a spear” heron stare, the faceplant, and then after levering back up on the stump .. fish grasped victoriously in beak. So I’d say it was planned, even.
