Always curious about theological setups where god allows the holocaust and the Rwandan genocide but steps in to save a convicted felon who wants to lower taxes and deport “the right people”
Not great.

Yeah, I'm really feeling for folks in Houston. I went through the week in February 2021 where it was impossible to get warm, but I think two weeks in July with no cooling would be worse.

I can't stop thinking about how Trump would eliminate our free, public weather service, NOAA. It's an institution that goes back 53 years and protects Americans everyday with warnings for tornados, thunderstorms and more. That's the Project 2025 plan. www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...
The MAGA Plan to End Free Weather Reportswww.theatlantic.com Project 2025 would all but dissolve the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

As soon as we learned that Crooks was a registered Republican it was clear that the assassination attempt was going to be a two-day story.

it's my absolute favorite holiday of the year when the entire U.S. news industry turns itself into a giant blogspam affiliate for a single massive billionaire-owned retailer with absolutely nobody in any position of editorial authority thinking that's in any way unethical or gross

Would it be too Texan to ask them nicely to please roll back to Michigan?

I read the article and you're not wrong. He is *still* trying to understand why Trump is the leader of his party, which is even funnier if you know a Trump supporter (they love him because that's who they are, it's not complicated). Such a waste of time.

Your Prime Day reminder that last year Amazon spent $3.1 million busting unions, and $19.8 million lobbying Congress for deregulations and anti-worker policies. Amazon reported $30.4 billion in profits last year, while paying more than half of their workers poverty wages.

Added resources from the Inflation Reductio Act have made it possible for the IRS to go after rich non-filers. Today it announced it had collected more than $1 billion from these wealthy now-taxpayers. And it is continuing to ramp up compliance efforts. www.dontmesswithtaxes.com/2024/07/irs-...

I'm working on policy proposals to protect consumer rights when companies brick smart devices. So please share devices that you've owned that stopped working because the company that made it killed software support or went out of business. Also, please share this request. Thank you.

TomTom decided to get out of the fitness tracker business a few months after I bought one. The only way to use the data was to connect to their server, which they shut down. Some folks made a workaround that ran on Linux, but I'm not Linux-smart so my pretty new watch was bricked.

You and I both know SCOTUS would end it. The current SCOTUS would have stopped Lincoln, too, tbh.

This is the real question. For every journalist doing their job, there's an article by Maggie Haberman that basically campaigns for him. I get that it's not a journalism problem it's an industry problem, but it's still one heck of a problem.

I'm sorry that was your experience! In my city, the largest group of serious trail riders not only maintains the trails in our bike park, but they do outreach to make bike riding accessible for families and new riders. It's sad to see the community divided when the is opportunity to work together.

Finding out that my state charges less for electricity to cryptocurrency mining operations and data centers has changed me. This is the first summer in 20 years that my thermostat is not at 82°. If they want to keep the lights on in Dallas, they can talk to the imaginary-money people.

Folks, I may have a PhD in history-including US politics history-but the last several years I’ve been working in public health as a science writer. One of my areas of focus is Aging, including Alzheimer’s and related dementias (AD/RD). I find the discourse around Biden really troubling.

What this article leaves out is that if you hand your unlocked phone to a police officer, they can legally search it. Unless companies develop a method that allows you to show officers insurance cards and driver license without unlocking the rest of your phone, don't. www.zdnet.com/article/digi...

I live in a state where the education policy in Project 2025 is already being implemented, and people definitely care about the deliberate and systematic enshittification of public education and the transfer of tax money to religious schools. They care.
