Chepstow Castle, Monmouthshire is the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain. Located above cliffs on the River Wye, construction began in 1067 under the instruction of the Norman Lord William FitzOsbern. It was the southernmost of a chain of castles built in the Welsh Marches.

"We can just scrub CO2 from the air with trees and technology." Not so fast. Never mind that nascent carbon-removal tech grabs less than 1/1 million of our CO2 today. The simple conceptual model of "taking out the CO2 we put in" is wrong. 🧪 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

If your holiday plans are important to you, now and the next few weeks would be a really good time to be extra careful when indoors around others. Covid rates are high and rising and flu and RSV are up there too.
First COVID wastewater data after Thanksgiving shows a significant increase in infections post-holiday. Per @jpweiland.bsky.social, the number of new infections a day has increased by ~40%, and the number of people currently infected has jumped to 1 in every 39.

It's become undeniable that Trump has a clear path to full-blown authoritarian rule in the United States. This has led some to predict that a Trump dictatorship is inevitable. However, I think this level of fatalism is a serious mistake. 1/ (free link) wapo.st/3t2SsUG

Etsy is about 50:50 dropshipping from whatever the latest Chinese online store is and amazing handmade stuff made by real people and it's a tiny bit more work to work out which is which using reverse image search, but I think that's on us as responsible consumers as much as on the platform
Etsy becoming a place where people sell marked-up crap they bought off Temu, listed as "handmade", and Etsy not giving a shit about it, is yet one more example of everything internet-related turning to garbage.
