Part of me feels guilty for even thinking this, but part of me wants to go down the bookies and lay a bet on how long it'll be before Suella Braverman says, "Enoch Was Right!"

You wake up in hell. You have a choice; choose to watch football or choose to watch James Corden in a play. You are in hell.
Because what you *really* want when you choose to go the theatre on the night of a big England match, is to watch the football.

YES! I posted that Senshi pic on twitter the other day and got a hundred dismissive replies saying "I can't even get people to hire me for $10." I spent a good part of the day diving into the replies trying to explain that the best way to get people to value your work is by following your lead.

Somehow missed that the ghastly Rod Liddle handed Middlesbrough South to Labour, via his vanity SDP run, as he garnered low 4 figures, but more than the Labour majority. (Reform didn’t stand, presumably approving of the frothing awfulness of Trussite Simon Clarke.)

The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, has appointed his cabinet. This new cabinet marks a historic moment in British politics, with a record number of state-educated Ministers and the lowest proportion of privately educated Ministers since 1945. CHANGE IS POSSIBLE🌹

Through my childhood, on election nights, my dad was the man under Peter Snow’s desk putting interesting facts on notecards into his socks. That’s how it was done before Google, kids. You got a very clever ASD man with some Oxford degrees to just remember interesting constituency histories.

What we would have been doing in my childhood which I really urgently need someone to do now is to go through the Reform vote and correlate it with every single possible metric to explain to us what the demographics are that drive a constituency toward Reform.

They pass power & profits to big business (small locals have no chance) - in return for no cgt/business rates/ employer NI & “unlocked public land” they purport to create “quality jobs” in the 1000s. Uh huh. Tell me where. (Here, Plymouth Freeport has refused a resident’s FOI requests)

Love this quote from @colleendoran.bsky.social : "Back in the day, fan culture was complete social poison... The kind of people who call themselves nerds and geeks today are the kind of people who would bash in the heads of nerds and geeks back in 1976."

If you wonder why I keep doing the free monthly comics feedback thing at Books with Pictures, the answer is 1: I think that good teaching can make a big difference, & 2: I hate to think of broke students going thru what @colleendoran.bsky.social describes: colleendoran.substack.com/p/the-cost-o...
PORTLAND COMICS ARTISTS: Would you like feedback on your work from an experienced professional? I'll be at @bkswpicspdx.bsky.social this Friday July 5th from 4-6 PM for First Friday Office Hours. We'll be outdoors at the tables next to the shop. How does this work? Details in the thread below.
The Cost of Artcolleendoran.substack.com I recently posted about the advantage I managed to squeak out of the international mortgage lending crises, and another lending crises that was yet another lucky near miss for me was... The education ...

One obvious point about the "Fiscal Rules" that the OBR are told to use, these rules were cooked up by George Osborne to implement austerity. There's nothing sacred about them. Most of the lazy journalism around the election assumes they're set in concrete & can't be changed. They're bound to be.

Remember when a group of crypto bros bought a copy of 'Jodorowsky's Dune' for $3 million (around 100x more than it was worth) thinking they could turn it into NFTs and an animated series because they didn't understand what copyright is?
The Saga of the 'Dune' Crypto Bros And Their Very Pricey Mistake Is At Its Endwww.esquire.com In a dismal crypto climate, the group is looking to sell its 'Dune' bible and cash out its treasury. “Really wish this worked out better," the group co-founder said.
