My experience is that those playing (and making brutally difficult content) for classic Doom, a game where you endlessly slaughter minions from Hell, is one of the nicest communities in gaming.

It's similar to the way fandoms for wholesome children's media are riddled with slavering child rapists and something like Happy Tree Friends has an audience of primary-school teachers and pediatric nurses with appalling sense of humor.
