this is one way to describe why I think the fascists can only have a Pyrrhic victory at best. The more they ‘win’ the less legitimate their authority appears.

the fascists believe that they can tear up american democracy at the roots and after we'll all have to fall in line "because it's the law." but the power of the law is a function of the legitimacy of the law. the state's monopoly on force is posterior to the people's adherence to the state!

Helps to be united

Lot of questions about why Macron called snap elections. One clear factor: By ordering speed campaign, he expected Left could not unite, & so they'd be knocked out in Round 1, helping his own party. Instead, Left united within days—& now surged to win biggest bloc in Assembly.
