This is just unspeakable. I’ve seen several stories recently about how worker protections are being rolled back in parts of the US. This kind of horrific story is why, everywhere in the world, we need strong rights and protections for all workers.

The press response to this is so unhinged, and reveals how aggressively in denial they, and politics, are about climate change I think. Like, there was a guy from English Heritage on the radio this morning and, despite Amol Rajan’s best efforts, he couldn’t say any damage whatsoever had been done

A lot of land around Chornobyl is now safe to farm again, and could help compensate for land lost because of Russia's invasion 🧪 All foods contains some radioactivity, and Ukraine has stricter limits than the rest of Europe, so this is not an issue for exports www.newscientist.com/article/2435...
Farmland near Chernobyl nuclear reactor is finally safe to use againwww.newscientist.com Radiation surveys suggest that it is now safe to grow food on farmland that has been unused since the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, but changing its status would face local opposition in Ukraine

HM Treasury needs its wings clipping. It sits like a dictatorship in its love of war time like austerity.

Yes, of course I have a visceral reaction to Just Stop Oil defacing Stonehenge. Of course I am horrified by it. I also understand THAT'S THE GODDAMN POINT. The earth's holy places are being destroyed and we know who's doing it. Direct all that rrevulsion where it's deserved.

Lads, maybe the fact that the UK government wants to dig a tunnel underneath it for traffic might be a bigger issue and worth bringing up. Just once in a while.

I find these reasons… rather pathetic tbh. We don’t just vote for ourselves, we vote for everyone. It’s a public good, no matter the (many, many) faults of the system.

A late 7th century CE (AD) funerary stele from Narbonne, France, erected by a grieving father named Paragorius, in memory of his son Justus and his two daughters. The menorah and the Hebraic sentence שלם על[ י] שראל (Shalom 'al Ysra'el / Peace upon Israel) indicate that this was a Jewish family.

Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur to Palestine, said that Israeli and allegedly foreign soldiers were “perfidiously hiding in an aid truck” during the hostage rescue operation. If true, and I imagine Albanese wouldn’t say this lightly, that’s absolutely perfidy - a serious war crime.
I have yet to see independent confirmation of this, but it certainly fits an awful pattern. Hopefully we will have more info soon.

"Downing Street threw a rule-breaking party while the Queen was alone at her own husband's funeral" was a significantly damaging part of the Partygate scandal, now Sunak's got his own equivalent of, even if you're against the monarchy, being shown up by a much older person re doing his duty.

so the royal aides have told the Times - and this is a pretty big breach - that "Buckingham Palace" (implicitly the King as well as staff) is furious about Sunak's D-Day debacle, because the King is in pain from cancer and was advised not to travel but _he_ went for the whole thing anyway.

This story is nightmare fuel. When people ask “why aren’t kids playing outside more?”, one of the most rational answers is “because there’s an unacceptably large chance that a sociopath with an exaggerated sense of entitlement and a hair trigger might murder them for no reason.”
Some dude in a Seattle suburb saw three teens about to commit an armed robbery so he stepped in to stop them. Only problem was, they weren't armed and weren't planning a robbery. They were returning a BB gun to Big 5. www.fox13seattle.com/news/teen-sh...

This one really has me fucked up ya'll. A child is dead because this asshole ordained himself a hero and thought his gun gave him heightened power to issue orders. How badly did America fuck up to live in a reality where dead children are an acceptable cost of letting lunatics keep deadly weapons?
